It’s weird that to the audience’s eye, Lily doesn’t seem to have spent any private time with her children, and following her father’s services, is immediately nap sacking it back up to where she just left to do more hard time at the prison, this time with pay. Great job opportunity to advance her humanity as a person (if the inmates don’t hostage her), and maybe her boss, the warden, insists she begin employment immediately, but a little grace time? Put Cane in the dog house (he’ll go, literally) and kick back through the summer to see your twins off… Read more »

Yeah, there were lots of weird decisions made in the aftermath of Neil’s tragic death when you would assume that those decisions, in light of the circumstances, would have ended up in the exact opposite direction. For example: Lily and Cane didn’t reconcile even though Cane was with Lily in every moment of her grief; lending his shoulder to lean on; becoming her rock when the foundations of her life were rendered asunder. You might have thought that given Cane’s willingness to go the extra mile that Lily would have at least given second thoughts to her decision to break… Read more »

I agree Lily is ignoring her children which is something she would never do .Totally out of character. She divorced Cane not the kids

Wow! I have not been affected by a death of someone I didn’t even know more than I am with this. I have been watching the Young and the Restless for 33 years. Kristoff is a fixture for me. I’m sure I don’t just speak for myself when I state that I truly feel like I did know him. Much like many other amazing characters on Y&R. Neil was a character yes….but after that many years, you feel a connection with the actor as well. It’s nearly impossible not to. I will truly miss seeing Neil on my screen however… Read more »

It is silly that Summer acts like the marriage between her and Kyle was never anything more than just an arrangement that had been made between them with many different stipulations. Also, when Kyle broke up with Summer she never mentioned that their agreement was that they were to stay married for one full year. I know Summer wanted Kyle to stay married to her for that period of time in hopes that Kyle would have a change of heart and realize that he was better suited to be with her and that he loved Summer. Kyle also has never… Read more »

At the celebration of life at the apartment, Nikki says that Neil never really got over Drucilla’s death. I think the writers purposely used Drucilla’s death in reference to Neil’s real son Julien. It was like they replaced his son’s name with Drucilla’s name, as the audience knows that he never got over his son’s death. It is sad to know that Kristoff St. John was carrying so much sadness inside, as well as anger. He not only never got over his son’s death, but he also never got over the fact that the mental facility didn’t do their job… Read more »

I knew this today’s episode was going to be tough to watch!!! I just lost my father 8 months ago and this was one of the soaps we watched together!! Now they are both watching down on me from heaven

I believe Christel Khalil’s performance was the most heart rendering of them all. You really felt that when she said she had lost a mother as well as a father that it was true. I am positive that Ms. Khalil’s drove into that wellspring of grief she and her other castmates were experiencing in order to give authenticity to the dialogue, in other words I think what other commentators have said is true: that when the characters are expressing their grief over the death of Neil’s it is, contemporaneously, also an expression of grief by the actors themselves over the… Read more »

Just another reminder of how well loved Kristoff was as an actor and a man

Yikes Ali I feel for you trying to encapsulate this week’s shows for the podcast. If it’s too hard it’s okay if it’s a shorter duration. If it is shorter, you can provide the link to one of the podcasts you did that was your favourite

I wonder why Victor didn’t mention that Moses would live on through him. He mentioned Moses in his speech, but then said that Neil would live on through Lily, Devon, Charlie and Mattie. sidennote: Moses is very cute, and it was nice to see Sophia again.

I noticed that too, Dianna! It made me wonder if it was the writers that made the error or Eric Braden. Oddly, no one mentioned Moses by name, but Lily at least mentioned him!

I thought it was interesting that Victor in the eulogy described Neil Winters as “a man’s man.” It turns out that Eric Braeden said the same thing about Kristoff St. John in one of the first interviews he gave following Mr. St. John’s death. Did he add that description extemporaneously as he was delivering his dialogue or was this an example of Eric Braeden insisting it should be included in the script?

What an emotional episode! All the eulogies were so beautiful & obviously heart felt
Did anyone notice that while Jack was speaking, the camera rested for a moment on Charlie wiping his eyes. Ana was in the pew behind him, & she gave an enormous yawn.

I didn’t notice that but I did notice they were badgering Lily to talk and she was so visibly upset, but glad she got to say her farewell. Jack and Victor gave great eulogies. Neil was a great friend to both of them

Glad I can comment on the funeral now, as it is hard not to comment sometimes before the episode is aired in the U.S without spoiling anything. I wonder if Shemar Moore was asked by the show what he wanted his character to say at Neil’s funeral. Not only the words Malcolm spoke, but also the actions he did while speaking about Neil. It seemed like the actor may have had some input of his own to add to the scene. Very heartfelt and emotional, as all the actors comments were.

I agree, Malcolm had the most to say. All the emotion is so heartfelt and real, No Acting here, all these people loved him dearly

OMG. All the feels! I cried more during the episode of Neil’s funeral than some real life funerals that I’ve attended. The writers really knew how to pull at my heart strings, and the actors were really feeling those words. I’m pretty confident that no retakes were necessary. A few things to point out: The opening was so tasteful. Only the beautiful voice of Ana, as the loved ones got ready for the funeral. And the song ending showing her face with tears. Victor’s acknowledgments were beautiful and heartfelt. I saw Eric Braeden in an interview discussing KSJ’s passing, and… Read more »

One more thing to add…I appreciated the writers not including the newer Genoa City residents in the mourning – the Rosales family, Jett, Elena, even Kyle and Summer who didn’t interact with Neil. This felt a lot more intimate. Just the family – old school Y&R.

The only thing that could have possibly improved the funeral scenes (although it was close to perfect) might have been a few flashbacks of Neil – even if played silently in a corner of the TV screen while people spoke of him. Okay…I’m done for real. Emotionally spent.

I agree ,was hard enough to fit in the characters that were part of Neil’s life didn’t have time for anything else, he was on the show for decades and affected many of the veteran character’s lives.

About the lack of newer GC residents–I thought that was wise, though I kept having to remind myself who NuNate was.

BTW, I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but NuNate reminds me a lot of Nathan from way back. Something about his appearance. He doesn’t seem to be a bad actor, but right now I miss original Nate. Yes, he was sanctimonious and occasionally annoying, but that was on the writers, not the actor.

Yes I noticed lily’s arm shaking, she was nervous and really had a hard time controlling her grief. I also thought Niki should have talked, she was the only one I thought should have been added. And Paul was missing, . just as hard as it has been to watch these episodes was twice as hard for the actors. They were all visibly shaken, but was a good outlet for their grief and was so very well done . Kudos to the writers

Was this filmed before Doug Davidson returned? I can’t imagine why Paul wasn’t there.

I happened to have the Closed Caption engaged during Victor’s tribute, & the CC read out”…Charlie and Mattie and Moses”. Victor left Moses out when he spoke.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving us closure to Kristoff (Neil Winters). When he passed away I must say I was disappointed with no observation except for “end of show” memorandum. However, this week – You did this so well!. To have a funeral was so fitting. Being an African American we took pride that Y&R chose to highlight this family as one of the families on the soap. I personally have watched this show since inception (I’m 63) and it made me proud how you created his family as a story line and paid honor to him and his… Read more »
