Oh I forgot to add my comments on Cassie’s death. I’m not sure if I had seen all before. I don’t have kids so watching it this wk I was thinking how may parents must’ve felt when I got sick. When I was 4 I had a brain abscess (infection). They tried some treatment but it didn’t work so I needed brain surgery then months of antibiotic treatment first at home nursing then outpatient clinics. I don’t know if I had a high fever or was close to death but being sick like that must’ve been scary. I have very… Read more »

OMG little Abby was freaking cute! “Powerlessness to powerful, from abandoned to beloved, from unwanted to undisputed,” that was so great Ali! The meeting btwn Victor & his father was so sad. I felt like both wanted to be wanted by the other even though they wouldn’t admit it. Victor says family is everything but the flashbacks showed Victor hasn’t really changed. He still doesn’t treat his kids equally, he goes off on mysterious trips, he thinks he’s the boss of everything, he keeps secrets. Remember the kinder, gentler Victor when he retired from NE? Oh yeah that only lasted… Read more »

Dynasty and Dallas certainly were big time TV smash hits! That was before there were 100s of channels to choose from. After Dynasty, I’d recommend Knots Landing if you want another 80s primetime soap. You’ll get to see our “Jeffrey Bardwell” back when he was a bonafide TV star. And the very beginning of Alec Baldwin’s career. And so many great performances. Very soapy, but very relatable too. Loved that show!

Hey Ali! What you called deadlocks are actually cornrows. I know the difference because I used to have dreadlocks. Malcolm had cornrows not dreadlocks

Regarding 00s storylines and characters, as someone who missed that decade of Y&R, a few thoughts: Ali – to answer your question about the Cassie death episode, yeah, wow, gut-wrenching. The flatline followed by Nadia’s theme did it. I can imagine watching it at the time was devastating. It wasn’t as devastating watching it today; I think because we know that Cameron came back as Mariah. 🙂 Plus, if you didn’t watch Cassie growing up, it’s not as bad, but still pretty horrible. As for the good guy JT, I totally missed him the first time. So, the recent storyline… Read more »

I would love to see J.T reformed as well and in a relationship. It would be great to have him back on the show, especially when Y&R went through all of the trouble to bring him back from the dead and on the road to redemption! He is a great actor who I would want to see on my screen as a new man.

I think Paul’s naked centerfold will be fun for people. They could have tagged it on to their Summer Fun week, although he was maybe caught by Lauren’s hidden camera in the dead of Winter? A couple of things: Unlike with Victoria and Lorie Brooks, there actually is the picture to be seen by the audience. It is professionally posed and lighted not looking anything like the sneaky snap Lauren supposedly took on the run, camera clumsily attached to the side of her purse. The problem with all these retros is just what episode do you see on the theme?… Read more »

Yeah! I think I vaguely remember this episode (or reference to it), but it was fun! Paul and Lauren in general were quite fun!

I started watching Y&R back in 1978, but this was actually the first time that I saw Cassie death episode. It was beautiful and brutally heartbreaking at the same time.

I don’t watch Y&R for OMG moments. I guess that’s why these disjointed, supposedly “best” classic episodes haven’t been all that satisfying for me. I prefer YR storytelling. I like day to day interactions that build relationships and then create drama over time. These weeks are just “hey, remember when that happened” collages. They have forgotten that soaps are about telling stories. I can’t say I’m surprised that this EP has handled the hiatus so poorly. He can’t stick with a story with the current YR show either.

SBN: Melody Thomas Scott will be on The Talk (CBS/Global) this Monday to talk about her new memoir! She seems like such a sweet person. If you miss it you can watch it online for the next few days in USA & CAN. The Y&R segments on The Talk are never long enough.

Melody has been talking about this book for literally years. Decades. She said it was going to take her a very long time to continue to write it as she was doing every word herself. Not a rush job! I don’t know all the details but she had a very difficult childhood with her parents (or parent), with the child actress ultimately raised by her grandmother. I think this will be a very interesting, surprising book. Yes, I am an Eric Braden Braden fan, but I didn’t have the need to buy his book and when “that boy” Ryan McNeil… Read more »

Oh, bummer. The book cover says it is with Dana L Davis, so in the end Melody got some help. Not crazy about the book jacket picture, but maybe it is what’s approperate to a thoughtful tome.
Not released til around the end of August.

I saw the episode the episode with Cassie’s death for the first time this week. I was planning on skipping this episode, but I was going through some family drama and I thought it might be cathartic. I was right! I cried like a baby. It also made me realize how much worse things could be. I don’t know why the writers want to kill children, but this was a very good episode, the acting was excellent.
