Ali: You did such a great job with the weekly recaps while all of the classic episodes were airing. I know it was a lot more work for you, but it was SO informative and fun to hear tidbits about what led up to what were were seeing and what came afterwards. I started watching YR a little earlier than you, but not by much — so our points of reference were very similar. What an unexpected gift to get a better understanding of GC and its residents during this bizarre time! Thanks for what you do!

Loved seeing Katherine again on the screen, especially her plastic surgery episode. I also thought it was great seeing the first episode so you could see Stuart Brooks and make that connection to Theo. It was also fantastic how they showed some of Michael’s development from busting through an apartment wall to a polished attorney!

As I’ve said before, I cater toward the older episodes more than the current writing team. The stories had more substance.

I think one obvious week was missed during out classic weeks. Adam vs the Newmans. There were many episodes Y & R could have shown to help the viewer understand the animosity between these characters. Sequential episodes of pivotal moments would have been welcomed.

Overall, I enjoyed seeing classic episodes. The sets were more intricate and the writing was tighter and moved the story forward. In many of the classic episodes events happened for a reason, not as in the current storylines where we wonder “where did this come from” such as Kyle wanting to end his marriage to Lola.

I came to feel very weary of the old episodes and was in no hurry to watch them every day, picking & choosing and fast forwarding to what might have been the heart of my interest on a particular show. That dig said, I really don’t want to complain about Y&R retro. It is what it is (was what it was?) and Y&R really gave it their all to keep us entertained and involved. The weekly introductions by cast members made the concept festive, as did the themes for the various weeks. There are a lot of ideas from the… Read more »

If and when Y&R needs to air the classic episodes again, I think for theme week they should do the themes by the era. One week of all 70’s classics, one week of 80’s episodes etc. That would be good to see. They could also do a week of stories that actually give us a continued story as Ellen has been mentioning. They could pick interesting story lines and give us 5 episodes that week that give us some sort of story from start to finish. A condensed version of different weekly story lines that would normally take months to… Read more »

I have to say that I am excited for new episodes but will miss watching the classics. I have thoroughly enjoyed the classics as we got better stories and sets back then. I agree with chatters saying that the stories jumped, but overall it was awesome to see the classics. It brought viewers back in time and also gave viewers who had stopped watching or hadn’t started yet a chance to view the history of the show. It also reminded us of the stories of the past that we had forgotten about. I say Y&R did the best job they… Read more »

The nostalgia was fun, but the choppy presentation that jumped all over the place from day to day was terrible. Soaps are about storytelling and continuity. I would have much preferred sequences of episodes from different eras that told a full story, not single episodes plucked out of context. I’m glad it’s over (at least for now?).
