Loved listening to all the comments on this week’s podcast. I do feel the need to defend Chance a bit. Chance wanting to find a solution out of court was in character for Chance. He is the ultimate good guy, and truly does love Abby and Dominic. In fact, Chance’s love for Dominic is pure and not rooted in ego, like Devon’s love is. Chance did this for his family – to free them all from the stress and misery. And I think Chance is giving Devon the benefit of the doubt and assuming the best. After all, this is… Read more »

I was ready for the courtroom. Fight and was very interested even though I’m firmly Team Abby. But then the storyline seems to have been wrapped up quickly with Devon and Chance arm-twisting Abby into giving in. I wasn’t happy about this and told myself “it’s just a soap” as a way of preventing myself from being too mad about how the writers handled this and how they so clearly favor and support Devon over Abby. But I actually got triggered to the point of yelling at my screen when, after Devon and Amanda leave the Chance Manse with Abby… Read more »

This is why you are the editor of GCBuzz. Right on!
And how about Devon, sprouting sweet nothings in Abby’s ear about how he loves her and Chance, would never want to hurt them but if she doesn’t bow to his wishes he’ll take her to court to claim what he wants.
Bad enough Devon has rounded up the baby but now he’s got Abby apologizing to him with the delay. Abby is a terrorist victim. Throw a rock through the TV set! Only then your really going to be screwed.

Abby looked sick after it was decided Devon should have custody too. Her idea of a family will not happen now with Chance. He really isn’t up to this and she is finally seeing it, but I do think Devon took this too far. he is a donor not Dom’s father

I thought this whole thing was gonna turn into an ugly court fight! We haven’t seen a courtroom scene in years (I think). Abby and Chance are just gonna let Devon pry into their life!? Devon is unlikeable right now.

It looks like the tables are turning for Adam, based on next week’s preview. Adam is right, Victor can be unpredictable, and it looks like he’s going to Victoria’s side and not Adam’s.

The Devon/Abby/Chance story is misogynistic, offensive towards vets, offensive towards people with PTSD, offensive towards the surrogacy/donor process, and just downright offensive. The thing that has infuriated me most is that Abby has been isolated and secluded from her family in all of this, has not only had to battle Devon without the help and support of a single Newman or Abbott, but her own husband threw her under the bus. Why the hell was no one else informed of what was going on? Her voice has not been heard, and it’s a voice that seems far less important than… Read more »

She has yet to sign papers but she will. Whoever the head writer is does he feel sorry for Devon? I’d say no. Its just storytelling and having Abby and Devon become a couple is going to give them something to long term write that they feel they can sink their teeth into with Amanda and the other players. Devon is just so gauling, but worse, the fractions that let him get away with it. Will Y&R ever address the moral failing of Devon or will they just focus on his earnest love for the baby? How dioes the writing… Read more »

Devon is really wrong in what he is doing. Now he even wants the baby to have Winters name . What right does he have to request this? He is even more obsessed than Mariah ever was with Dom

Hmm- can’t say I find the stories offensive; to me, they are just stories- illustrating how some events may/may not fall together along w/how some people may/may not act. I’ve never felt that Chance is meant to represent all people affected w/ and by PTSD, no more so than Dom’s “villagers” are meant to represent all those involved a surrogacy arrangement and/or custody issue. Haven’t considered soap stories as reprentative of anything much really, prob more like mis-representations of most things, lol. I’m an “escapist” viewer- don’t want lessons in, modeling of, or guidance in Life. Nor do I think… Read more »

*clapping and nodding* The writers have done Abby wrong. They wrote this storyline keeping Abby in near-total isolation from her family so that she could be bullied by Devon, Chance, Amanda, and even Christine. She didn’t consult her own mother or her billionaire dad or her brother or sister or Uncle Jack or MIL Nina? She just caved in the span of one to two episodes. I call BS. Here’s the thing: let’s assume for a moment that a court determined that Chance was not mentally healthy enough to be a great dad presently for Dom, the court will still… Read more »

OMG Abby and Chance give up before the battle even begins!!! Have these writers EVER watched a soap opera???!!!! Where is the drama??!! This show is becoming like Seinfeld, a show about nothing. I apologize for the negativity but I have watched Y&R for years and I am so disappointed in it right now. I have said previously that I would never stop watching but I am seriously wondering if it worth the time.

The only thing I can imagine is that the show saw all the complaints about all the focus on Abby and her baby over the past year and this is a quick resolution to move on. They certainly were planning an all-out war over custody, but instead we have Abby and Chance giving in overnight. New year, new stories? We can only hope I guess. But I will never look at Devon the same way. Ugh.

Devon is toast in my eye. I don’t know, Ellen. The thing is all that went before in the village storyline was to bring us to this exact point and now they are just going to dump it?

I was totally ready for a juicy character-driven storyline involving a court battle that would bring out everyone’s motivations either for fighting for Dom or for supporting Devon or Abby. I am firmly in favor of Abby and don’t think Devon has a case at all, but I was still open for this to be a vessel through to expose lots of characters’ pain about losing children previously (Devon and Abby), never having known their own father (Amanda), suffering from PTSD (Chance), etc. all of this could have been explored over a month or two, but instead we get a… Read more »

Y&R threw it all away to go the Abby/Devon love story route. You point up all the high involving drama we are being denied.
Shocking it has all gone this way in a single episode.

Everyday I wake up and look at these comments. I think, ‘I’m going to give people a break and not write anything’, but it has not been possible with the Dominic story. There’s plenty of stuff I can keep quiet about on the show. If Y&R were to read this comment they would know they have a hit on their hands with Dom as he envokes the passion of the people and they would give us MORE. Unfortunately, the story just took a turn that will anger many, so – ‘so’, what? I guess fans will just keep watching even… Read more »

I enjoy this little piece of civility Ali created. I am a soap fan with no outlet. Nobody I know watches anymore if ever. I’ve tried message boards for soaps but didn’t fit in and couldn’t keep up. Ali has created a nice site that even us folks less savvy can enjoy. You and so many more are fun even when upset with the show. Keep on keeping on Gary.

Naomi, I am very independent and solitary, happy as a clam watching soaps since birth in secret. (That’s pretty good. Almost true) Y&R CHAT, run by the experts (expert) has given me such fun and untold joy, as you can see from my posting I have an incredible need to express myself. Only It was always just me from before that I was talking to. I can remember in being on longish walks I would critique the shows out loud with all the importance of giving a State of the Union. Thank goodness YnR wins! or we have no show. Not enough “resenting” to send it off the air, lol. I’ll never feel that way toward the show itself, only toward CBS when they cease the renewals… which I expect fans would resent and blame on the show. Lol- It’s a vicious circle that I hope doesn’t become a fan-fulfilled prophecy. This show needs support, not nay-sayers who watch it “anyway.”

“Resent” is a strong word. I’m grateful for the show and have used the wrong word. I go with the flow and accept what I get in terms of story. Only once in a blue moon does a story really bother me like what has become of the Dominic situation. I had so expected Abby to have risen to the occasion…

Victor questioning Adam’s business acumen—and bad mouthing him to Nikki—is UNACCEPTABLE. Go ahead Victor, betray Victor Newman Jr. I look forward to the battle. May Adam stomp all of you and rise triumphant from your ashes.

Im so confused by this sudden turn by Victor against Adam. Adam should be like, “pops, it’s a big ol nothing burger. Billy was putting on an act for my view hoping I would write a story about his so he could later “pull the rug out from under me.” My only action I. The whole thing was having eyes and seeing his act and expressing pity to other people. Sure, sally was going under cover but to watch him. At no time ever did I consider writing a story about it, so his plan was always going to fail.… Read more »

Makes no sense that according to Victor, Adam almost fell into Billy’s trap when Adam completely ignored Billy’s hard knox act and did not bite on the idea of writing an expose about him!

Okay—we are being told that Devon’s biological connection to Dominic is very important and must be honored. And he is allowed to insert yet another name into Dom’s way-too-long name. But it’s not McCall, Devon’s biological father. So biology obviously isn’t everything. INFERTILITY, SURROGACY AND SPERM DONATION ARE NOT JOKES. Devon now gets to interfere in Abby and Chance’s family for the rest of Dominic’s life. And Abby is actually apologizing to Devon? This is so disrespectful to any family who needs medical intervention to have a baby. Devon ended Nate’s surgical career and now this. He’s the worst.

Good point. The writers are so singularly focused on making Devon the hero or good guy or winner in every story even when he is the opposite of a hero. Devon, who cheated with his own fathers wife, is so angry that Nate had sex with Devon’s girlfriend that Devon assaulted Nate so badly that it ended Nate’s surgical career. Nate’s response? Practically a shrug and an apology to Devon saying “I guess that’s what I get for sleeping with your girl.” Now Abby is apologizing to Devon when he tries to sue for custody of a child he fathered… Read more »

I have written about this before; the writers are hell bent on ramming Devon down our throats. They seem determined to make Devon into some sort of saintly figure we are suppose to prostrate before and worship. What these delusional writers fail to appreciate is that Devon is simply not that compelling a figure, certainly not a figure that merits a storyline where everyone else has to get on their knees and kiss his derriere.

I don’t know why Chance is procrastinating in seeking help for his emotional trauma he experienced in Spain. He is aware of the troubled mental state he is in as he admitted it to both Abby and Devon. I just heard on the radio this week that the majority of people do not want to date someone who doesn’t have a therapist. People want a partner that looks after their mental health. It is amazing to see how far along this once negative stigma of seeing a professional is now on trend.

I am glad that YnR is giving us a, as you say, “troubled” Chance. I think this is more nuanced and interesting to watch than had he been portrayed as breaking from reality and incapable of coping. Instead, he’s been flailing, wanting to do what he thinks best in what HE’S seen as a no-win situation. “Conflicted” Chance has been believable to me, right down to even something as inconsequential as a haircut being a rightfully low priority, lol. I am interested to see the character’s story progress.

In theory, of course Chance is more interesting troubled. Yes, having him conflicted is more nuanced than having him completely fall apart. Yes, to everything, BUT you at least need Abby to fight for sole custody of her son with Chance able to waffle on the sidelines, enjoying the baby if he is not full in until the time he will feel differently. Chance seems to have no sense of his emotional fog being likely temporary and now Devon has snatched custody for a lifetime. It angers me the way Devon is so kind and sensitive, reassuring the guys (“you… Read more »

No big fat NO to troubled Chance! Emotionally disturbed is one thing but to actively sabotage the most profound, heart felt wishes of Abby, the woman you confessed your sincerest love, is beyond just being “troubled”, it makes you a coward and a weasel.

I couldn’t wait to comment on y and r chat because this week’s episodes regarding Devon, Abby and the baby wonder ball has made me crazy. I was so infuriated with Devon. He keeps calling Dom, his son and he wants to basically demand custody from a baby that belongs to his best friends. Even though I wanted to jump through the tv, I respected the storyline because it was going to lead to huge drama. Victor, maybe Nick fighting for Abby against Devon. Basically it would be a whole Winters vs Newman war. But instead we have Chance handing… Read more »

For me personally, all Y&R needed to do was show me repeatedly and in much greater detail what Chance has actually been dealing with since his return. The one episode this week where he laid it all out on the line for Abby was the most we have gotten of what is going on deep inside him and even that scene was lacking any depth but I finally saw some emotion! If we had been shown the pain and anguish Chance claims he’s been dealing with, I could more easily accept his decision to allow Devon a bigger role. I… Read more »
