Oh YES, I would like to join the writing staff. I have ideas for almost every storyline. And if my brilliant ideas are not considered, I would like to know why by the other writers that don’t go in that direction. A couple of examples from a bit back: 1-Dina did not have to go. She was such a rich character, and could have been a Catherine matriarch, sitting in the chair ALIVE giving advice, reminiscing. 2-Gloria and Jack sneaking around for no serious reason was far more entertaining and could sneak into all sorts of storylines. Currently, 3-Diane was… Read more »

I voted no I wouldn’t want to do the writing but I would love to be a script consultant. I could sit at a small desk outside the writers shared office (I’m seeing Buddy, Sally and Rob throwing wadded up jokes in a wastebasket). The writers would be asking my opinion as I’m bringing their coffees. I could then relay the latest I’ve read on Y&R chat. The writers will think I’m brilliant because the stuff people post here is GREAT!

Noooooooo. Oh sure, I could come up w/’the best’ characters, stories, and dialogues, lol, like oh… every viewer! But fleshing all that out while jiving w/all the moving parts? No thank you. It clearly requires a specialized skill set and – as in any profession – likely has more to it than meets the eye. I suspect it’s a burn-out job as well. Kudos to all YnR writers who have brought it this far and onward! I’ve always thought any YnR ‘bad’ writing (subjective, to be sure) has been far out-weighed by the ‘good’… way more right than wrong. So… Read more »

I voted, “Just Watch” because I realize the writers, despite the direction they go sometimes, do a very good job. Often, they have really surprised me, and the surprises outweigh the disappointments. Me as a writer would be risky at best and my job security would be always on the brink of getting fired! 🙂 Sometimes I think I could do a better job and then on second thought….”stay in your lane Henry”. 🙂

I use to think I’d really enjoy writing script for YnR. But I think age caught up with me being to much trouble for retirement.

Heavens, no. I just like to complain about the scripts. Writing is such a laborious process. I have ideas and opinions—but actually crafting the lines and doing the endless editing for 5 shows a week???? No thank you! These writers are Olympians. I think it’s awful that they just dumped those 5 female writers all of a sudden. I’m sure it was a budget cutting move, but now we have a writer’s strike. Something seems weird about the timing with all that.
You are correct about the timing. It was actually calculated. But don’t worry Y&R will not be affected by the Writers Strike. The Head Writer is also the Executive Producer and The Other Producer also writes for the show. So the two of them can technically still produce scripts.

Not write full time. But write in ideals. They have finally done what I have been asking and complaining about regarding Devon. And it really made me happy.
You will see it on Monday’s Episode in the US.
