I am a little behind in watching all of the episode with Jack at the hotel. It was hard to watch Jack taking those pills and drinking. This is why Jack should not be Nikki’s sponsor as Henry has mentioned before. Alcohol is still a drug and addictive. I was surprised that Jack was taking real pills and drinking to get his point across to Nikki. He could have went to the vending machine and bought some candy or mints and asked the front desk for a zip lock bag to put them in. NIkki would never have known the… Read more »

I thought was a bad idea to drink and take pills. I thought the pills were placebos too. This doesn’t help Nikki. Also thought it was awful when Victor said he would have let Jack die, but that is Victor.

I love the ridiculous soapy plots we’ve been having lately, but I also wanted to express some appreciation for the writing of some nuanced relationship/conflict scenes. This week, it was namely Adam and Chelsea, as well as Traci and Diane. In both cases, I thought it reflected a situation in which you can see an argument from either side and it was about very real, sticky feelings that bubble up in close relationships when there’s a stressful situation. Keep it up Y&R writers!

Trent (?) said he doesn’t care about the convoluted plots as long as they are emotionally real.

And the Emmy for asshole of the week goes to the great Victor Newman. (Played perfectly by Eric Braeden) The entire Newman family was so oblivious to what was happening with Nikki. Jack literally risked his own life to save hers!

I can understand victor being mad because Jack should of called victor and also Jack should of not risk himself by taking pills , what Jack did was stupid but victor saying he would just let Jack die was cruel and victor in the end threatening Jack by telling him to stay away from Nikki was harsh. I am glad that Nikki it’s going to rehab now. That was a nice scene with Kyle and Claire , and I agree having Harrison see a therapist it’s the right thing for Harrison

Ali I must politely correct you on a comment you made last week. You had mentioned that it was a different Nate that dated Abby after someone had said that they would like to see Nate with Abby. It was this same Nate that dated Abby. If you recall, Nate’s character was quite boring when he was with Abby. That is maybe why you think it was a different actor. Nate’s character has come a long way since then. A while back I had mentioned that I was surprised that Nate would get involved with Victoria after he had said… Read more »

Not sure if Nate and Victoria actually had what I would call a dating” relationship, lol… I would call it more like a ‘having lusty sex’ relationship. I always thought the same thing about Sharon and Chance… did they have a relationship that actually resulted in a ‘break-up,’ or did they just stop having storeroom sex, lol? ()Oh, wait, I guess if you show up together once at Society or some GC event, it is official ‘dating’!

My dear Sue W, I read my comment back and I didn’t say that Nate dated Victoria. I said he got involved with Victoria and he dated Abby. You are probably right that Victoria and Nate didn’t go on a lot of dates. They did go out to eat a few times, but that is about it. I remember Nate having Abby over for dinner at his place as he made her dinner. They took things slower and were not nearly as physical as Victoria and Nate were.

Can’t believe it was real. How devastating. I guess now we’ll get to see a storyline with Diane and Jack. He’ll be struggling with addiction and Diane with her anger. I hope Diane hangs in there with him. She is so far proven to be a very loyal wife. If not, Phyllis will be in the wings.

Verrrry soapy development. I am all for some meaty work once again for Peter B.: he’s been ‘treading water’ for too long. Simpering over Diane and furrowing his brow over Ashley is backburner stuff. The actor can deliver the real goods – and break our hearts.

Jack’s confessions about how much the pills helped him and how much stress and pain he’s been under was quite revealing. I can understand how he decided he’d had enough of reality and needed the escape that pills and alcohol offered.

Well, Y&R finally brings some reality to Nikki’s alcoholism storyline. I shared on this platform months ago having worked with alcoholics & addicts, that Jack being a recovering addict himself has no business being Nikki’s sponsor. Even though his drug of choice was opiods, alcohol is a drug and he was still drinking even though off the pills. So many holes in that storyline but I guess I’ll give him some points for risking his own life to shock Nikki into going to rehab.

I am reminded of a quite popular- in the minute – singer who is freely and candidly telling anyone who will listen (including kids) that he or she is a recovered drug addict who still continues to party up a storm w/alcohol and weed. This person seems? (at least imho) to wear it like a badge of honor, if not to outrightly be promoting the behavior. I’m not interesting in debating the appropriateness/disappropriateness, but rather am putting this out there to note that recovered pill-addict Jack’s drinking may be common, maybe even typical? behavior for real-life recovered drug addicts. BUT… Read more »

To sueW: The “Twelve Step Program” of AA is a lifetime journey. You are never “recovered “. What you really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of your spiritual condition. The same is true for a “pill addiction “. I wish Y&R would exit that storyline because even though they quote bits and pieces of the AA program jargon they are really making a hot mess of that. Out of all of the cute “AA JARGON” they mention one key concept they failed to mention and that is the concept of a “HIGHER POWER”. Maybe when Nikki… Read more »

Of course I get it. The point I was lamely trying to make is that people in real life don’t always follow ‘best practice’ or subscribe to protocols and programs. In that same vein, I find many made-up YnR characters, i.e. Jack Abbott and Nikki Newman, to be realistic in their flawed and/or failed (or temporary) recoveries/aporoaches from whatever their personsl demons/afflictions may be. And – offering no opinion here – again, just saying – plenty of real people don’t believe in God or a ‘higher power.’

Many AA Meetings do take place in church basements or some other building that’s connected to the church. I wish they would exit that storyline. The writers are making a hot mess of that In my humble opinion.

Yes. I mentioned once before that Y&R never bothered to put up a backdrop behind Nikki when she is at the meetings to make it look like she is somewhere else. They use the same background as the Athletic Club while they want to make it look as if the meetings are held in a different place.

Of all the things I thought would happen on Thursday’s episode, what happened to Jack is not it. I am actually kinda stumbling for words and doing the double take at the screen to confirm what actually happened did in fact happen. I thought Jack was playing a new tactic with Nikki to try to help her but honestly I think the show just did a hard turn on the character of Jack. I guess when Diane made comments worried that Jack being Nikki sponsor could make him fall back on his addiction was supposed to be foreshadowing what is… Read more »

This was devastating to watch. Hoping Jack set up a fake drug dealer beforehand and had placebos for the pills. Hope he’s acting and didn’t do the real thing. It’s comes from nowhere, even though, he has had a lot of stress in his life. It seems more theatrical for Nikki’s benefit.

Seemed real to me. But I think Jack used placebos. I thought I was watching a master acting class. Melody Scott Thomas and Peter Bergman brought the writing to life. I went on the emotional roller coaster with both of them. Well done!

Chat friends, I am so drawn in on this Thursday showcase for Jack and Nikki. No one can deliver a line with the slight note of sarcasm like smiling Jack Abbott. He has no rival in the attractive older man category when he stops being Mr Uptight as he called himself. I enjoyed very much his showcased talents on this episode. Also, he was so physical with Nikki in a non-violent way. He was in her space, making her step back or aside as he moved about. he showed little regard or respect for her pleas for him to GET… Read more »

Loving the southern Ashley belle , she is fun to watch and it was great that scene with Ashley belle and mean Ashley but now mean Ashley took over , we will see what happens next with mean Ashley. Loved the Claire reunion this week with cole, Victoria and Claire but I wonder if Jordan killed that woman so Jordan can steal the storage
