First off any type of abuse is wrong abd for it to be verbal I have been told by a battered woman they rather the physical hit then the verbal because the hit happens and it’s over the verbal is long lasting and messes with your confidence and once that has been damaged it’s very hard to get it back…With this storyline it’s good because this may give the Woman or Man the courage to get help …I just wish in the beginning they would’ve made up their mind because at one point I thought JT had a heart condition… Read more »

This story definitely pushed my buttons. I can’t remember the last time I yelled at the tv screen but I was hollering to Victoria to KICK HIM OUT!!!! I think the story is a good thing because as you said Ali, it shows that domestic abuse can happen to anyone. However, if Y&R is going to do this story as a public service, they will have to be careful. I hope they don’t try to explain away JT’s bad behavior by blaming it on a brain tumor or other illness. I think JT can be rehabilitated as a character but… Read more »

I votes yes. I think its an important s/l but wish it involved different characters. Like why couldn’t it have been Zach or Scott? Characters that can just disappear and never come back. I was excited to have JT back because I had a crush on him during the teen years but maybe he can’t be redeemed now. I don’t k now what Jtoria was like when they were married but I don’t like this. Can you give us some background Ali? How did it start? Its such hot/cold relationship now. I don’t see any love. He was so sweet.… Read more »

It’s moving too fast, and we are not feeling that strong, confident Victoria who has only been with JT in the way past, and a few weeks has those diminished feelings. She has never been weak, she always thinks she is the head of household, and i just do not think she would fall for that so quickly. Yes, stories need to be told, but not just as a PSA. Checkbox – here – we covered domestic violence, alzheimer’s, same sex relationships, cougar affairs, —-too fast is my vote!

This story line bothers me. I have been abused before but Victoria is a strong character and it would be nice to see a female character such as her take a strong stance and kick JT out and not do what a woman without any support would do because she feels there is no escape. It really upset me that director took such direction with her character.

I love that the writers are incorporating relevant story lines that the every day viewer can relate to, either indirectly or directly. Stories about the human condition. Stories we can learn from. Stories we can heal from. Also, I loved, loved your dialog this weekend Ali! We met another side of you I don’t remember meeting before. We now know the passionate, serious Ali as well as the witty, bubbly Ali. I was picturing you as a lawyer pounding out your points as you made your case and you were gooood! You had me nodding my head in agreement through-out.… Read more »

I like the idea of incorporating more realism on the show so naturally I approve the direction the show has taken. Incidently, during the show’s inaugural season (1973) the primary storyline concerned the raping of the saccharine sweet beloved female lead, Chris Brooks, by a stalker. Pretty heady topic for the time. As a result, addressing disconcerting topics such as Alzheimers and domestic violence in a more unvarnished fashion is only a demonstration of the show returning back to its roots.

I selected “stories like this need to be told.” Since the actor who plays J.T. has been involved in so many movie productions including Oscar nominee “La La Land”, “Sicario”, and “Only the Brave” over the last few years, I am surprised he has lasted this long on his return engagement. I would rather see him come and go like the character of Ronan several years ago but that is no longer a possibility. However, maybe the actor wanted to do something more challenging. Maybe the producers/writers received so much criticism regarding the sex traffic storyline involving newcomers that they… Read more »

Wow. This is a really difficult question for me. It’s really hard for me to watch this storyline, but these storylines need to be told. The new direction for the show is definitely leaning in a more realistic direction. This stuff happens, ugly as it is. From a technical standpoint, I’m enjoying the lighting and direction for these scenes. The dark lights and the almost shake of the camera are really adding to the effect. This really reminds me of the Bill Bell days. Bill Bell did the darker lighting and the more serious storylines. If nothing else, I hope… Read more »

This is such a layered answer for me. Personally….yes.. I do feel like… This is a storyline that needs to be adressed it is something that happens and light needs to be brought to it. But. I don’t want to see it be handled in the way that… It ends in loss. Like.. I want them to handle it in a way that victoria is wise enough to get out before it gets too intense.. You know what i mean? Like.. Id rather see this as a storyline of the victim becoming the victor and getting away from an abusive… Read more »

I think stories like this should be told. The way the storyline has evolved was perfectly true to real life. The only issue I had was that they used JT to do it. JT was always a good guy. He’s one of the few people who had the balls to stand up to Victor Newman. Years ago when JT and Victoria werr going through Reid’s custody battle, we learned that Victor tried to bribe the judge. The truth came out and JT was granted full custody. JT is one of those people who stood up to Victor AND WON. Again.… Read more »
