1) Adam: “Thirty-year-old canned goods. Well, if an explosion, car fire and gunshot wound couldn’t kill me than what could a little botulism poisoning do?”

2) Adam: “Did these Montalvos eat anything that didn’t contain refried beans?”

3) Adam: “Wait a minute, there’s a warning label: ‘The jalapenos are also good for removing paint from your car.”

Oh, yes. I was fascinated by this. No tuna. Of course all this is useless to Adam without a can opener. I just thought of this: Adam is clearly in the basement of his own house and he could certainly go up the stairs Nick walked down for better snacks and reinforcements. Then scurry back to his basement to await the cops impending arrival. (Rey) Nice crow bar.

When the writers create a scene like this – Adam eying the canned goods – are they writing for realism figuring the audience must think Adam hungry, or can they project the comic potencial in this for certain subversives watching at home? Or both?
