I know you aren’t doing a full separate year end round up but could we do a little best/worst of 2019 in certain categories? Like how bout you ask the chatters best & worst s/l, best/worst couple, hook up, fav character, what character you want gone, what character you want back (I know its Cane for you Ali!) & what we’d like for next year etc. Then read the comments next week? A lot can happen in a yr & I’m sure the chatters will come up with things we all forgot about. I liked when you asked top 3… Read more »
I know!!! I love this idea. Every year, I think of putting together a best/worst voting thing, but I haven’t yet been able to pull it together. Let me see if I can come up with something for next week.

I must say that I love the Abbotts get together and Traci singing, that took me back many years ago. Some of the viewers thought that it would have been interesting if somehow Tessa could have been her long lost daughter, at one point the show was connecting Tessa to the Abbotts . Also really enjoyed Faith, Mariah and Summer. (Camryn Grimes and Hunter King have great chemistry .)
Y&R saved the best for last, in my opinion. The scene with Traci singing on Christmas Eve, and Dina coming to life to join in, was EVERYTHING. Best scenes of the year.
As I say, haven’t caught up to X-Mas, but I completely agree. “EVERYTHING” & best of the year!
S, you really know how to call em’! But Josh is still out in 2020!
Sandra, I saw it. Everything you said and more. What a step up to the plate tour de force for Beth Maitland singing, Oh Come All Ye Faithful, acapella, as the wretched townspeople spread across the junction joined the celebration! I love seeing that actress so honored. SHE loved it! Deserved it! Earlier, before the commercial break Dina had appeared looking majestic and festive, learning every Christmas present under the tree was for her! I liked the way you put it, Dina stepping out of it and “coming to life” for Christmas Eve. It is so right that Y&R would… Read more »
I’m so happy you enjoyed the episode. Traci and Dina at the forefront, I almost couldn’t take it. A magic moment to be treasured in the years to come.

I completely forgot that Tracey used to be a singer. It wasn’t until I heard her singing “O Come All Ye Faithful” that I remembered that fact, as her voice sounded quite lovely. Maybe Tracey could do a duet with Tessa one time for fun. Tracey is a woman of many talents.

I was glad to see that Faith was not “SORASED” after coming back from boarding school. It would be nice to have a tween on the show. We don’t have any other kids her age on the show. Y&R would likely bring another character her age onto the show to create some fun drama. I would like to see Faith have a major story line. It could be interesting.
She’s sophisticated and old enough now that she never really needs to be aged at this point. Y&R seems to have made the commitment. Whatever oldie they might replace her with can not make up for the value of her as a long term player that actually grew up on the show. That rarity. Cassie was in the same place, but Y&R made the choice to terminate by bumping her off…

Hilary seems to be a homewrecker. Why is she texting Billy and asking him if he wants to meet up with her? She knows he is with Victoria and had even met Victoria earlier that dad. Hilary seems to be sneaky and two-faced to me. I am sure she knows that single Nate is obviously interested in her, but for some reason wants Billy who is already in a relationship. That doesn’t say much about Hilary’s morals. If Nate knew that Hilary was behaving this way, I don’t think he would be interested in her. Nate had broke up with… Read more »
While Amanda pursuing a relationship of some sort with Billy is shady, the person truly at fault here is Billy. He is the “not married” person, the one who is lying to his partner constantly, the one who is raising young children with Victoria. He needs to make a Dec–either stick to your commitment to Victoria or leave her. One relationship at a time.
Yes, of course. Billy is in a committed relationship. He would be the one cheating, not her. I am strictly speaking about Amanda’s morals and values as a person.
I really don’t understand Billy. We hear his thoughts on how much he loves Victoria and how beautiful he thinks she is and how he never wants to lose her. We then see him texting Amanda and telling her he can meet up with her later. He also asks her if she would like to play cards. I find his behavior rather repulsive. He doesn’t want to lose Victoria but is willing to jeopardize his relationship with her and the kids. I was glad to see that he appeared to have changed his mind and decided to stay at home,… Read more »
Some people sabotage themselves because of low or no self esteem. Just as they are getting to the finish line, in Billy’s case a happy home life with Victoria and the kids, they do something to ruin their lives.
Lost patience with the character and not into Billy’s struggles at all. Just my take, but yesterday when I saw him flirting with the gambling table, I had this strong reaction that others are not going to want to go down this road again either! Josh Griffith, you just can’t help yourself. Another story you think you can re-tell better?
I’m not at all intrigued by, or interested in, anything Billy. I hope he gets caught sending a text to Amanda on Christmas and Victoria takes off her rose colored glasses and kicks him to the curb.
Smart that she didn’t marry the bum. Sandra, we always have Dina together and now we don’t have Billy together. Jack distraught and momentarily alarmed at loosing a true Abbott for Christmas, but how lucky he is not to have opressive Billy looming over the festivities. Nervous to leave and making smirky faces, what does he bring to a table? Dina filling the slot is so much better, even if she gets mad and starts whinning she wants to go home in the middle of the everything. With your tip off I know she won’t be doing that for X-Mas… Read more »
My hope is that, when you do watch this episode, you are as delighted as I was. It’s just Dina…when she’s on screen it’s like I freeze for half a second and pay even closer attention to anything she may say. I love Dina, what a wonderful woman to have in the show.
Yes. She captures my imagination and I put my balogna sandwich down to completely focus on all she says and does. Everytime we see her she seems less of a vegetable than she was the year before. Dina’s still got it!
Merry Christmas Dina Abbott Mergeron.
Yes…Billy always has somewhere else to be, or something else to do.

I enjoyed seeing Adam sitting at the table ready to wrap Connor his Christmas present, The Magic Kit. I think that is the first time I have ever seen a character preparing to wrap a gift. We always only ever see the finished product, which by the way is never a present that is wrapped to tear open. The lid is always wrapped separately from the bottom of the box, so the lid just lifts off easily to avoid any mess.

I find Summer’s attitude regarding Theo and his feelings for Lola a little unrealistic. Summer and Theo were dating for quite a while and not less than a few weeks ago they were having hot passionate sex with one another when Summer returned from her trip. A person’s feelings just doesn’t disappear overnight. I would think Summer would likely feel some kind of jealousy and maybe even some resentment towards Lola. The two men Summer has had relations and feelings for are into Lola and not her. Summer talks to Theo like they have always just been buddies and not… Read more »
My heart was filled with joy, and sadness seeing Dina Christmas Eve. She looked so beautiful, I cried the moment she appeared on screen.

Okay, pet peeve or two here. When is Victor going to correct the record re Adam??? He needs to tell the entire snippy Newman family that Adam believed that Victor ordered someone to KILL him by running him over with a car. After that Adam tampered with Victor’s medicine to WEAKEN him, not to KILL him. I’m tired of all the Newmans saying ‘Adam tried to kill (Grandpa or Dad or whatever)”. I thought we were getting past the Adam character assassination that plagued the show when Adam first returned??? Ugh. Now we seem to be going back there with… Read more »
Victor has done far worse, let me count the ways. I’m not saying tampering with medicine was okay, just that it was in retaliation for attempted murder which puts it in a different light. Adam and Victor talked this all through, so it makes no sense that the rest of the family appears in the dark about what really happened. The writing this year is so incomplete in so many areas. It gets frustrating.
I agree that Phyllis is angry with Adam because she thought that she may have stood a chance at romance with Adam. That dream was pretty well quashed when Adam made the proposal to Phyllis to seduce Nick. That was Phyllis’s wake up call that Adam is fantasizing about Chelsea and not her. Phyllis admitted to Nick that her pride was hurt, coupled with feeling used by Adam for his own personal gain.

OMG, I would LOVE to see Phyllis and Chance end up being partner PIs! They’d be amazing, and then they could hook up!!! Any takers?
I don’t know if they could work. Chance seems like a very by the book kinda guy…like Rey. But PIs YES. Then it would give her a reason to actually snoop around.
Count me in! Phyllis will need a job soon. Her natural nosiness and persistence could make her a great partner PI for Chance!

I’ve been thinking about diversity on YR & there is much room for improvement. First why is everyone Catholic or Christian. We should have a family that celebrates Judaism, Kwanza or something else. Christmas trees look beautiful in everyone’s home but I’d like to see something else. Same with weddings & funerals. Its always a white dress & priest. I would also like to see more ethnicities on the show. Like someone who is Japanese (Juliet), Chinese (Ted), south Asian (Ravi). All 3 are gone from the show. I do like that there is some Cuban flair with Rey &… Read more »
Totally agree. Being Indian American, I was so excited when Ravi joined the cast and bummed that they never developed the character more. At the same time, I get why GC is what it is. Think about when soaps started and were at their height – diversity wasn’t even part of the American vernacular then. 🙂 But it does feel like soaps are a bit behind from primetime television.
Am I correct in deducing that all the diversity happened under Mal Young? Including the Mariah/Tessa romance? Let’s bring back some of that vibe!
Well maybe not ALL diversity. Neil & Dru were a super couple back in the day & maybe the only black couple there was at the time. Victoria Rowell (Dru) also brought the foster kid story to the writers. I’m south Asian & I like seeing Ravi too. YR is a bit behind the times. I watch The Resident & it has an Indian Dr which I was happy to see. They even had an Indian wedding. Muslim & soap operas don’t really work because of all the sleeping around but I’d love to see other cultures.
Yeah its a bit different than other medical dramas & I already liked Nick Zchury from The Good Wife. Dr Ogafor is my fav. I watch This is Us, A Million Little Things, Modern Family, documentaries and some Netflix shows. I love talking shows!
Count me as a vote for diversity of all kinds. I miss Ravi too! The loss of Neil, Lily and the twins is huge. As a long time viewer I appreciate soap traditions—but soaps have also always told very contemporary stories. Genoa City is so out of step re racial, ethnic and religious representation. And where is Tessa? where are Mariah & Tessa’s gay friends? And never, ever a gay man or storyline in GC over all these years??? Characters of all kinds make for a much more engaging show. I don’t buy the idea that the audience won’t like… Read more »

Ali, Ashley’s new haircut would look fab on you.
Oh, no. I haven’t seen it, but what are you saying?
