Am I the only one disappointed with the Winters week. The first 2 episodes of the week when Neil and Dru first met and Malcolm making his debut were great. But I was disappointed with the last 3. I get we had to get Lily and Devon episodes in since they are Winters too but I would have preferred to see other episodes over those last three. I wanted to see Neil and Dru’s wedding in Japan, when Neil found out Lily was really Malcom’s and as controversial as it was wanted to see when Lily was conceived.

I liked the Monday episode where Dru and Neil met, but the others seemed lackluster and I fast forwarded a bit. With the other sub plots with characters not uppermost in my affections… I’m ready for Y&R to get back to work and give me Adam, Sharon and the rest…

I agree, the episodes don’t follow one another either, so if you have a story line that is interesting you don’t see how it’s resolved ,instead they shift to another entirely different episode.

No pandemic pre-empt, but CBS chased a stolen car down the freeway in L. A. for the first half hour of the show!
Christmas in May! Nice seeing the Winters adoption go through! How did Devon & Dru reconcile their differences for this happy day? Liked the “it’s a Boy” adoption plaque from Sharon! Ditto the mugs from Devon. The joke’s on me. Now here comes the Corona update whiping out the rest of the show! HA! But where is Traci? Fastest one hour in television. Fast forwarded practically the whole thing! Maybe next time…

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark in the way that the rarely ever seen in real time Esther Kate Linder Valentine has made it into practically ever Y&R retro episode shown. What’s up with that?

FYI: ideas for filming with Covid-19

I just finished watching the season finale of The Blacklist. Most of the episode was filmed just before stay-at-home orders were issued. The creative team had to find a way to finish the episode. Parts of the episode looked like a graphic novel. The effects of going back-and-forth from reality to graphic novel were interesting. I felt they enhanced the story rather than detracted.

When filming resumes, could soaps try this for scenes when the characters need to be close? What do chatters think?

I saw the Blacklist. It was a good try but the animation wasn’t that good, I much prefer to see the real actors especially for important and action scenes. Don’t think it would work for soaps and would require too much work. Will be interesting to see how soaps will deal with social distancing. not sure they can cut love scenes

I’m enjoying the classic episodes very much. I especially enjoy how the writers give us more space to breath. Take the episode with Devon and the lion. There was build up and moments of stillness vs a current storyline with Theo being caught using Jack’s old idea. It happened in a flash.

I enjoy the people I know but watching characters I don’t know is like watching some other soap which can be boring and as I have said before, I don’t like how they are skipping around and not showing follow ups to storylines. Although I have enjoyed seeing everyone younger and the great sets

Ali, you mentioned a couple weeks ago that you don’t like Lorie Brooks, and I don’t either. Other of my unpopular dislikes of characters beloved by many are, Cassie, Mariah, Brad, Chloe, Kevin and Mackenzie. I also often dislike Ashley, but more in a love to hate, and depending on story line sometimes root for and sometimes against, as opposed to the former, who I am just indifferent and uninterested in.

I agree with a lot of these! I have nothing against Brad C, but have always found him too measured, enigmatic and boring. His face doesn’t move enough to be compelling. Not the actor’s fault, but he looks like he is always posing. Lesley, you better watch it as I don’t think you’re allowed to dislike Cassie… The first time I plugged into Chloe after a brief hiatus from Y&R she was trying to force her will onto Billy and seemed to live in her own selfish, out of touch world, and that long ago persona I haven’t been able… Read more »

I wasn’t crazy about Brad Carlton but he . was nice to look at. How shallow of me ! Ashley I can take or leave, She isn’t around enough, always running back to Paris. Maybe she is back now that Dina is ready to die at any moment, It’s weird that Mike on GH who has Alzheimer’s is also ready to end his run any day now.

You do get to see how certain characters have grown over the years, like Kevin he was despicable ,now he is lovable. I liked Cassie, was sorry to see her killed off, so I was glad to see Mariah although she was also not a very nice person in the beginning, but now is supportive of Sharon and her personality is better now not as cynical and less rude with most people. Not a big fan of Chloe or Mackenzie either

Is Victor Newman the longest running soap villain of all time? Any other villain who has done things on the level that Victor has either is written out after one story arc, such as David Kimble and Sheila Carter, although she came back for multiple story arcs, it always ended in her leaving, or is redeemed, often become a hero such as Michael Baldwin, Kevin Baldwin on Y&R, or Luke Spencer on General Hospital. Victor does very evil things such as kidnappings/imprisonments (Jack, Michael Scott, Billy), impostor/doppelganger placings (Jack/Marco, Mariah/Cassie’s ghost, Emily Peterson/Patty Williams), and manages to hold his standing… Read more »

I do enjoy you calling Victor a villain! I will always think of him as one now. The show tries to gaslight us into thinking he’s just “complicated”, but I agree with your label. They can’t just erase his history. Adam is a Boy Scout in comparison to The Moustache.

That is Victor, the villain we still want to see stay on our screens, like the mob stories on GH with Sonny and Jasion. The show just isn’t the same without these characters around to cause trouble. They sometimes go to jail but not for long. They are multifaceted characters. Fans love them!

We have already had rivals week, so I don’t think Y&R will be showing this. It is a clip of Lauren and Tracey cat fighting after Brad has a heart attack after a night of love making with Lauren. I don’t think I ever saw it before.

Wow! What a fight. I didn’t know Tracy had it in her. She was ruthless. She was using
a sofa cushion to stop Lauren’s breathing. This seemed more realistic than the Nicky and Sharon fight. I could tell they were acting and having a hard time not laughing.

Gloria is constantly getting kicked in the teeth by the Abbotts. As far as they are concerned she is the family pariah, a blot on the supposedly unblemished history of the Abbott clan that they desperately wish to remove as expeditiously as possible. She is treated little better by her kids Kevin and Michael. I get it that Kevin should be naturally resentful towards her because of his abusive childhood growing up with his father but I do not understand why Michael dislikes her so much. He treats Gloria as if she is a millstone wrapped around his neck, a… Read more »

I wish they would air a whole week of continuous episodes—as they originally ran. All the skipping around is confusing and much less satisfying for me. Surely they can find runs of 5 episodes that tell a good story from different eras?

I agree. They should finish a story before going to the next. I would like to see more dramatic episodes like when Dru and Cassie died. Or some other couples. Like Sharon and Adam.

It was a good show.but on ABC so it focused more on GH. They did mention the rapes of Laura and Liz and the great love affair of Luke and Laura but not much about Bill Bell and the CBS shows.

I didn’t think of it at the time, but later I imagined they were mostly highlighting the ABC lineup. There were several surprising OLD clips of little moments that meant something to me I hadn’t expected. Not cuttings you always see on the nostalga reel. I liked seeing actors gone from soaps 25 years talking backstage about the process of performing in them as if they were interviewed yeasterday for this special! Liked that Andy Cohen called Greg & Jenny his young love favorites, but wasn’t much into Luke & Laura. Same here!

I would like to share another theme idea for the week if I may. I think it would be fun to have a vacations theme or honeymoon week where the characters are on a tropical island. I know they have already shown Christine and Paul on their honeymoon which I unfortunately did not get to see, but there are many others. 1. Ashley on her honeymoon in Hawaii with Dr. Steven Lassister where she is stalked by Leanna Love.(I know you don’t like her Ali, 2. Paul and his father follow Cassandra and Adrian to the Bermuda Triangle to clear… Read more »

Ali you had asked what other themes y&r could do for the old episodes. I know it was mentioned to have a villains week. I would love to see a villains week but I would want to see classic villains not ones we have seen in more recent years. The villains I would like to see are 1. George Rawlins plotting to frame Paul for his murder. 2. David Kimble when he is married to Nina and also an episode where he comes back again as Jim Adams and is married to NIna’s mother. 3. Shawn Garrett who was obsessed… Read more »
