HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, ALI!
You have certainly been like a mother to we Chatters. So patient and kind. Only getting mad when you absolutely have to.

Why does the quotes game end by Sat? I couldn’t get my guess in. Nick cheated on Sharon with Phyllis. Later cheated on Phyllis with Sharon. What’s the common link here…Nick can’t keep his pants up! I didn’t remember that Nick cheated on Phyllis with Sharon. What a douche bag. After watching the Katherine episodes I remembered how much I really dislike the Mackenzie character & most of the actresses. The character is just so annoying! Love seeing Dru. Didn’t like Danny but he is good looking. Aww fresh faced Lilly!

I enjoyed the scene of Michael Baldwin interviewing for a job. He admitted to the interviewer that he had been incarcerated. I remember when they had shown Michael in prison and he was writing a letter to Christine I believe. The letter was all gibberish as Michael wanted to pretend he was going crazy so he could plead insanity. We saw this a couple of times, and then he wasn’t seen again for years. It would have been an interesting story line For some reasom Y&R decided not to do ot. That is the reason I had stopped watching the… Read more »

I don’t remember, but that is fantastic to be sly like a fox while writting crazy letters to your victim for an insanity defense.

I was really looking forward to it… It would have been such a compelling story line. Very disappointing they never followed through with their creative idea of his insanity defense. One day you saw him and the next he was gone.

I never understood exactly how they turned Michael into a truth and justice character after such dark beginnings. Now he is always teasing (and saving Kevin) and is the DA? That would never happen with his record. And shouldn’t Michael have more empathy for people with complicated histories, like Adam? He seems to make allowances for certain people like Kevin, Chloe, Phyllis and himself. Others get no leeway. Christian LeBlanc looks great, by the way—I am shocked he’s a bit older than I am. He must know about Ali’s secret eye cream. I thought he was in his 40s.

I can’t recall any backstory of Michael having demons (like his brother) from his earlier life, but he didn’t arrive in Genoa City with darkness. He was a brilliant lawyer with integrity, but somehow “the bug” got under his skin and he became obsessed by her who he couldn’t have. Regressing into building tunnels to obtain her, there must be more breakdown history here I’ve forgotten. It didn’t just happen… Who has the complete mental history outline for Michael Baldwin?

I’m surprised (protective?) Bill Bell would put Lauralee in the middle of that intense (like in the extreme) stalker situation…

Actually Gary when Michael first arrived in Genoa City, he was already a bad guy who sexually harassed women and would try to control them and use his authority to get his way. I remember this story line so well. I copied and pasted this summary of Michael’s history with Christine as it is a good way for you to get all the details of his character. In 1991, Christine Blair went to work at a prestigious law firm, for hotshot lawyer Michael Baldwin. The charming Baldwin took her under his wing, guiding and training her. At first, Christine was… Read more »

What did Ali say about new characters the moment they are introduced on the show that their trajectories start off as villains but once they establish themselves as regular members of the cast they eventually mellow out to the point where we as viewers are invited to root for them.

You can count on it! Remember the current Kyle in the beginning? Even the long playing returning Summer came back as a devil…

I realize that what I consider my good memory is incredibly selective. In so many different ways in these last few weeks I have blanks where others have fascinating recall. I do not remember any of that long history back story of sexual harrassment by Michael Baldwin. My memory begins with him mentoring Chis. Before he kissed her there was a rich student/teacher relationship that went on between these two for a long time. CJL was a compelling, quick witted actor and he made his working relationship with Chris come alive. That is what I found compelling. Chris admired and… Read more »

You’re right Gary. Christian Le Blanc’s character was very compelling and as he is such a great actor as you described. There was a dynamic relationship between he and Christine. when he was mentoring her. He was the reason that I would tune in. I know how you feel when you say that it was disappointing to see him turn that solid relationship into sexual harassment. It was a topic that the show wanted to bring to light as it happens in real life. It is especially a hot topic today with the “me too” movement. As disappointing as it… Read more »

A y&r fan on facebook made a good point when they pointed out that Abby was only a baby at Victor and Nikki’s wedding and Cassie was about 10 years of age. Today Abby is older than Mariah who is Cassie’s twin.

I was saying last week how the sets were much bigger and better. The house that Brad and Ashley were living in that used to be Cassandra Rawlins home was huge! When Brad walked into the house I couldn’t believe how large it was. We saw several rooms at once. The sets were so much more realistic as you really got the feeling of how rich the characters by the size of their homes. The Colinade room was massive as well. Beautiful set.

On sets – I do miss the ranch. Even the re-ranch used to be bigger, there was a foyer with upstaircase and piano, then down into a drawing room. Now just a doorway and sofa. I have wondered about Victor’s penthouse. Surely he still owns it. And Phyllis used to have a penthouse, door just across from the elevator, fireplace and upstaircase. Michael and Lauren had a big apartment. The Abbots had a dining room for Abbot breakfasts. Where does Lilly live? Could be Neil’s penthouse. Where does Billy live? I loved his retro RV set. Abby’s hotel has only… Read more »

In the beginning, I think the Colonnade was more intimate with just the pink and the crystal chandeliers. At V&N’s wedding we saw how big and expansive that place is, and at the Masquerade Ball how TALL! That Cassandra Rawlins house always takes me aback. I was sleeping through that whole story and think of it as a rarely used set – even as Brad & Ashley took it over. Yet so much $$$ must have been spent on this very big and realistic family house. You would have thought it would have been designed for a real new Genoa… Read more »

I thought Nikki looked very beautiful when she was doing her little strip tease for Victor at the Colinade Room. Her hair and make up looked flawless. She was very slim then. I thought Jack handled the situation very well, as most men would not have reacted so calm, cool and collected like Jack did. He is a good classy guy.

NIna Arveson the actress who played Cassandra Rawlins was one of the most beautiful women. I loved her character when she was on the show. Her story lines were very compelling. I remember when Paul went to his client George Rawlins’s home for dinner. George calls his wife to come down, and Cassandra comes down the stairs to see Paul sitting there. Paul was shocked as he and Cassandra were romantically involved. Paul could not believe George was her husband, as he was so much older than her. The story line was so compelling as every day George would write… Read more »

Side note about Nina Arveson: I just read that Soap Opera digest called her TV’s most beautiful woman in March 1989 when the magazine had over 1 million subscribers. I had mentioned I remembered her story lines being very compelling and I just read on her website that the Bermuda Love Triangle story line achieved #1 ratings and still holds the record to this day for CBS. I had actually forgot about that story line which of course was filmed on Bermuda Island.

http://www.ninaarvesen.com/ OMG… I am just now seeing that if you go to the actresses website and scroll down, she has the entire Bermuda story line to watch! It is in 24 episodes. I don’t remember it at all, but I know it will be good. I just briefly clicked on one of the episodes and you see Paul in disguise with his dad on the beach. He has a fake mustache so that he won’t be recognized..lol. I hope you find time to watch it Ali and Y&R chatters as It would be great to hear everyone’s thoughts on it!… Read more »

That jazzy red satin opening on Friday’s Y&R is their most Bold and Beautiful yet! Hard to look away from! I like to give these character mug-shot intros some slack, but for the first time I noticed the extra florish of flamboyancy each actor put into their pose. Yes, they were acting! Only Doug Davidson appeared human.

Victor looks very handsome with that closely cropped haircut! And I’m the one who’s always saying that men should be allowed to let their hair roam free! He just looked his best to me in this wedding episode, very dashing. It’s sad that there always seems to be another woman who is heartbroken about Victor in the subplot—Cassandra, Ashley, Diane, etc. Victor is a heartbreaker, but that’s what soaps are all about I suppose.

I loved the fashions In today’s episode from the beautiful lilac bridesmaid dresses to Nikki’s elegant gown. The fashions in the 80s were unremarkable, whence Ellen’s sweater and plaid pleated skirt she was wearing when she went to meet John to talk about their future. I remember those 80’s days with big permed hair and shoulder pads. What were the designers thinking.

Do we know what happened to Lynne—Paul’s loyal secretary or assistant? Did she just disappear one day along with Miguel? Did they run away together???????

In the fall of 2004, she was out of a job when Paul closed his detective practice. She left to visit her mother and never returned. Wouldn’t it be nice if Lynn came back to town to shake up Paul and Christine?

I always appreciated Lynne! Talk about a “regular person” for the audience to relate to. Paul was close to her for so long. It’s odd that she wouldn’t get a send off or be mentioned or be seen at Crimson Lights once in a great while. It would be fun to have her show up and stir up trouble. Lynne and Sheila—partners in crime?

Jess Walton and even Michael Baldwin certainly had the bloom of youth on them in yesterdays show! JW really wasn’t all that terrible a physical match for that other one. What was her name? But certainly no over the top personality connection –
Nikki in black looked great coming into focus in her opening credit. Don’t remember any of those images… Y&R, what do you have for us today?

Oh Victor! Only makeup will make me feel like a real woman—giggle, giggle. Yikes—this did not age well—I may lose my lunch. Sorry, I much prefer icy Victoria telling her father to go fly a kite. Wait, I am suddenly Team Victoria! I must have coronavirus!

Nothing wrong with wanting to look good. I just find the Victor/Nikki relationship vapid— from the strip club to that scene in the hospital to him still calling her “my baby” and keeping important secrets from her decades later. She is an object to him in many ways, even though he loves her for sure. Nikki would have been better off with Jack—in my opinion. Jack would have respected her as a fully functioning, capable human being and a partner. I don’t think Victor is capable of that.
