Hello, I can’t seem to find the part of the website where we tell a little about ourselves, so feel free to move this to the appropriate space. I’m Julie and I’ve been watching Y&R since freshman year of college, when my dorm friends and I would watch. We kept up with only CBS soaps: “Y&R”, “Bold & Beautiful”, “As the World Turns”, and “Guiding Light” (I remember “Santa Barbara” with Robin Wright!) That was 1988 or so :). I’m in Richmond, Virginia and in the 90’s, the CBS tv station was also broadcast on the radio way at the… Read more »
At the link, scroll down to Feb. 18th. It’s the sheer blue one. I’m wearing it out for my birthday dinner Saturday.

Yes! I totally remember this Sharon top. It’s gorgeous! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Julie!
Hello! I’m Elizabeth and I live in Ohio. I started watching Y&R about 7 years ago when I first started dating my now husband, Greg. We would go to his mom’s house for dinner some nights and she would be watching it. I learned the characters’ names and some of the story lines. After she passed away, my husband and I started watching it every night as kind of our way to remember her. My kids watch it with us too when they’re over. It’s a family affair lol. My husband and I both work for a mortgage outsourcing company.… Read more »
Hi Ali and everyone! I’m Astra Berry and I live in Virginia. I started watching Y&R at age 6 or 7 in 88/89 because my mom and grandma watched. Some of the storylines are fuzzy to me from way back then cause I was so young, so I would say I remember storylines more from the early 90s. I discovered Y&R chat because I love listening to podcasts and I wanted to find a podcast that analyzed Y&R and I searched my podcast app and found this. I have been listening to this podcast for over a year now and… Read more »
Hi Ali, I’m Colleen, and I started watching Y&R when Another World, and then As the World Turns, were cancelled. I first started watching Another World with my Mom in the early ’80s. She would watch her show and fold laundry while my younger brother and sister took their naps. Now I watch Y&R with my two faithful hounds (they love the show). I’ve been listening to your podcast for a couple of years, and always look forward to having your commentary to listen to while I wash dishes and make supper on Sunday or Monday nights. Your podcast makes… Read more »
Hi Ali, and everyone! My name is Adam MacNeil. I am 14 years old and I live in Ontario, Canada. I am currently attending my first year of high school. I live with my mom, my dad, and my dog, I have no brothers or sisters! I first came across Y&R in 2009 (when I was 8 years old, LOL!) when my grandma came over to my house and was watching Y&R on our TV. I remember viewing Katherine Chancellor and Nikki Newman having an intense conversation, even though I had know clue what the problem was at the time!… Read more »
Hello My name is Phaedra and I live in Los Angeles, CA. I have been watching Y&R since the mid 80’s when I was in high school back in Cleveland, Ohio. I’d mostly catch it during Christmas, spring or summer breaks, since it would come on while I was in school. Somehow over the years I just always seem to catch up on what I missed. Now I watch every day. And thank God for it being online now on the CBS app. Actually that’s how I found you Ali, on Youtube, only a few months ago while seaching for… Read more »
Hi everyone! I am Candida John (Grenadiancandy on youtube), 24 years old and I live in Grenada in the Caribbean. I have been watching ynr since 2004. Our little island experienced a category five hurricane (Ivan) in 2004 and all cable and electricity was out. Then, when electricity was finally back, cable was still unavailable but the local channel was working, and, with nothing to do I started watching ynr that aired daily on the local channel. And the rest is literally history! I have been watching ever since. I am also a French and International Relations student at the… Read more »
Well, Candida, I think we can all agree that Y&R isn’t just for old people because I’m also 24 and I love the show! Lol
Hi Everyone I LOVE Ali’s Y&R Chat podcast. I found it about six months ago, and I wait impatiently for each new podcast. Its like gabbing with a great friend who shares your love of our favourite soap! I am from just outside Vancouver Canada, have four grown kids, three grand daughters, and two silly dogs. I feel like I live in a cartoon most days 🙂 I started out in 1981 watching Another World. I was home from work on maternity leave, and my baby was born the same day as Amanda Cory!! (Tho Amanda SORASed to a young… Read more »
Hey guys! I’m watching old clips of The Young and the Restless with Lily and Daniel right after Cassie died and Lily and Daniel ran away together. Oh how I wish they would bring Daniel’s character back! I loved him and I thought they would have at least brought him back since Phyllis came out of her coma. He should have come back to visit and to check om Phyllis and I believe that Daniel and Kevin had the best bromance ever!!! Lol
Hi Ali my name is jazmin I have been watching y&r since around 1 year ago and then I kind of gotten into it and watched it on YouTube. I am only 12 years old. I would describe myself as compassionate, kind and funny
Hi Char! Thanks so much for commenting. It’s awesome to hear from you! It’s funny that you mentioned watching Y&R for the first time over summer vacation. That’s when I got hooked too!
How great that Y&R had an anime easter egg for you! You were probably squealing with glee during Billy and Victoria’s conversation — while I completely missed it! PS: I’m waiting until next week to see the new Star Wars movie. I’m hoping to sneak into a quiet theatre for a matinee. Wishful thinking? Most certainly!
Hi, I’m Char I’ve been a Y&R fan since the summer of ’75 when I was 10 years old. I can’t remember how or why I started watching, I think I was bored one summer day and just watched it, I was hooked right away!! I love listening to podcasts (mostly anime and soaps), that’s how I found Y&R chat! I don’t have a lot of friends who watch soaps, but I do have a few. I’m from Southern NJ, live in NE Philadelphia, PA now. Married, no kids, I’m an accountant specializing in Accounts Payable (I pay the bills… Read more »
Hey!!! My name is Robbie. I’ve basically been watching Y&R since the 3rd grade. I can’t believe it’s been that long! I used to watch it with my mom. And if my mom was at work, I would watch it and tell her all about it after she got home. For the first couple of years, I remember not completely understanding why I was interested. But the storyline that completely changed everything for me, was when Nina married David Kimble!! I swear, if it wasn’t for that storyline, i’m not sure if I’d still be a fan. That storyline had… Read more »
Robbie, you’ve been watching since 3rd grade!!! NICE. You’ve got me beat! I’ve only heard about the David Kimble storyline as part of Y&R history, but the image of ‘KILLER’ carved into his forehead is haunting to me, even just from seeing screenshots.
It’s awesome that you’ve been able to keep up with the show all of the years, even though you sound like a busy guy! Public relations must be a fast-paced environment. I’m guessing that watching Y&R is part of your relaxation routine!
Ali, you are absolutely right! I watch Y&R everyday after work, as part of my relaxation routine.
Hello everyone my name is Lori and I started watching the show in 1981 when I was 16 years old. The storyline that I first remember is when Paul and April wete expectung and I believe this was shortly before the Paul Nucki cult thing. Can’t remember if April was in the cult to. This was vack before you could record show (yes a long time ago) I begged my mom to watch fir me, gave her the quick run down on who was who and she got hooked!! My 24 year old just moved back home and she got… Read more »
WOW! From single mom — to correction’s officer — to pharmacy tech and more! You’re a “Jill” of all trades, Lori! Haha. Hey, congrats on your weight loss, by the way. I’ve recently been through a weight loss journey myself, and it feels amazing. The best part is: You’re getting paid to do it! Also, I have to say: I think it’s just wonderful that you’ve been able to keep up with the show since 1981 — and now you’re watching with your daughter too! The next mission will be to the grandkids watching someday too. 🙂
This is going to be longer than I want it to be… Sorry in advance! Hi! My name is Amanda, and I listen to Ali’s podcast, which I discovered one day when I was looking for soap podcasts to listen to at work. I’m a fairly new watcher, starting in January 2013, after I graduated from college, and had a bit more free time on my hands (I’m what you call a non-traditional student and am a bit older than most at college… but I love it so much). I also watch General Hospital, but have fallen a bit behind.… Read more »
Hey Amanda! Trust me, I don’t judge you. I loved the whole Scooby Doo gang storyline too. I thought it was something interesting that Y&R had never done before. I know a lot people complain about recycled storylines but I really don’t mind. I think I’m like Ali in that way…pretty much up for anything. Each storyline has me pretty much hooked anyway. By the way it’s nice to meet you ☺
Thank you Consuela! I see I am in good company! The only thing I did not like about the storyline was making Harding the killer. He had so much potential as a long term character on the show, and that was a total misfire.
In regards to storylines, I don’t mind the recycling either. I like the emotions that come from the stories. It’s where the heart is.
And so nice to meet you too!
YAY! Thank you so much for commenting, Amanda. How cool that you were able to interview Cady McClain. She seems like a really interesting person, and it’s a shame things went sour with her and Y&R. I’m totally checking out your websites right now, and I hope everyone else does too! I was a bit curious about your Made for TV Mahem e-mail address when you entered the soap contest. Now I know! That’s such a fascinating genre with lots of crossover in the soap world, I’m sure!
Thanks for checking out my sites, Ali! The blog is my baby. Almost 10 years old. And yes, not only are TVMs a really fascinating genre, but you are correct, there is a lot of crossovers with the soap world. Susan Lucci really made a 2nd career for herself in telefilms. I’m totally obsessed with this movie called Fantasies, which is about a night time soap producer (modeled after Gloria Monty from General Hospital’s glory days) whose show has been targeted by a stalker. There’s a lot of crossover in there as soap actors play soap stars. Peter Bergman has… Read more »
Hey Amanda! I’m going to check out your blog and your podcast, they sound so interesting! I wish we all live near one another, we could get together every other Saturday, drink wine and talk about how we all wish to have Victor Newman’s money LOL! Plus I love Cady McClain. Ever since she was on As the World Turns, I tried to follow her career. Sad she’s no longer on Y&R, I thought she made a great Kelly.
Hi Connor! Hope you enjoy visiting my site/podcast… Maybe we can do a Kickstarter so we can all meet in a central place and have a Y&R marathon!
Cady McClain is an amazing woman. She’s really talented too, and I agree, it’s a loss she’s not on the show anymore.
Nice to meet you!
