So many women and men do not come out for so many years to never. Those who say differently simply don’t know and definitely don’t understand what it means to be lesbian or gay in our world. Showing Mariah at the brink of understanding her own sexuality is right on the mark. I love how this is being written. It is sweet and it is tasteful. For those of you who are yucking, threatening to stop watching or posting vile emoticons, this could be your daughter. Don’t think for one second this love has escaped your extended family. It is… Read more »

Well put,Grammakins. I agree that the story line is well-written and believable. I’m still not wholly convinced the program will make them a couple but today it went beyond suggesting they were attracted to each other to confirming it. It seems like Y&R writers wouldn’t take things to this point if they plan to turn back.

I am up for it. It could be very interesting as it will be something that has not been fully explored on the show. Will definitely be captivating

Mariah & Tessa, off to Haight-Ashbury and the summer of love!
What next???

So, I am a Mariah and Devon fan. I said this actually on the CBS Soaps in Depth page, and I’ll repeat it here. I like them as a couple because Devon is very dry and serious, and Mariah makes him laugh. And it’s adorable. They are really cute together in that way that feels a little real to me. That said, I’m not against a Tessa/Mariah pairing, and I don’t necessarily think that an established character like Mariah would already have come out if she were gay. Some people have no idea that the feelings they are experiencing are… Read more »

Absolutely! I believe wholeheartedly that we should be as inclusive as possible, the more people represented the better. I’m loving that Y&R is taking this step to showcase any LGBTQ character or romance, whether it develops into something or not, I find it encouraging. Bring on Tessa and Mariah!
Also Ali, I love the way you approached it in the podcast, encouraging everyone to be open minded and respectful, whether they voted yes or no. This should be a safe and friendly place whatever the issue. You do a great job!

I vote yes. I liked Tessa’s comment the other day when she said (paraphrasing) “Nobody messes with my girl Mariah”……….I thought then, ok here we go!

To me, the moment between Tessa and Mariah didn’t seem inappropriate or out of character. I was happy to see possible bisexual or questioning characters on my show. That’s real life. Plus, Tessa’s history is still a question mark; it seems natural to introduce her as a bisexual character. And Mariah may or may not be interested. In response to some of the other comments….It’s probably unrealistic to think the actors have a lot of input on how they want their character written. And I wouldn’t expect the actor to necessarily agree (or disagree) with how his or her character… Read more »

Ito would be nice to develop a Mariah and Tessa friendship, like Lauren and Phyllis, Katherine and Nicki, Cheksea and Chloe–confiding in each other, laughing at movies, maybe a shopping trip. Having a gay couple of either sex would be a fine addition to the Y&R cast, if they bring in a couple as new characters and we accept them for who they are, becoming Genoa City characters It is they way some people live, not just a change of heart because you can’t get a guy. “Changing” two established characters just for story shock is not respectful to fans… Read more »

I voted no because of the whole Noah but also becayse of personal beliefs, but that doesn’t mean I will stop watching the show like some people have said they would do.

I agree. Mariah IS an established adult character if she would be coming out or exploring her sexuality, that should of happened when she was younger. Her character is not a sheltered or supressed woman. It seems like the writers are stretching and running out of matiriel for her. I like her character and theres a lot of past the writers can tap into for material.

I do think Mariah and Tessa would be more convincing than any other female characters who have been with the show for decades. Mariah’s past in a cult is foggy and could have involved a similar relationship and Tessa is still a blank slate with some gossip sites even implying she may be Sheila’s daughter. In a way I suspect this was a way to justify losing Kevin since with this storyline he would not reunite with Mariah. Therefore, they just sent him off with Chloe until they get Adam out of “their writing toy box.” Since Tessa is on… Read more »

I voted yes! Did you see that look between Mariah and Tessa?! I felt more romance and spark between those two characters than I have ever felt for couples like Nick/Chelsea, Kevin/Chloe, Sharon/Scott, etc. I think now is a great time to do an LGBT storyline on Y&R. The fact that they haven’t gone here before, is just a shame. There were rumors several years ago that they were going to go in this direction with Noah, but it never happened. The fact is, we don’t know Tessa’s backstory. She could be bisexual and perhaps have had similar relationships in… Read more »

I agree 100%. Times have changed for the better and a romantic involvement with the same sex is more accepted now….about time. People this is the 21st century and if you can’t love who you want to love without getting Flack well that’s a shame. We have come a long way people need to get over it. I’m off for Mariah and Tessa you go girls

I voted no. If I knew that the actress Camryn Grimes was in favor of it then I think my opinion of it would be entirely different. If this is what the actress wants and feels it is a storyline that contains more than a morsel of authenticity behind it then why not satisfy her wishes. Given the fact, however, that her character’s romance with Devon now seems to be headed for extinction then the decision of taking Mariah in this direction just strikes me as exploitative. It would be as if the character of Katherine Chancellor (which you have… Read more »

Tessa’s heart & soul is up for grabs, but Mariah, as we know her, wasn’t hatched gay. Y&R, as lead by Sally and Kay, may be telling an emotional tale of two lonely disappointed by past relationships people coming together in a powerful bond. That was the story of Kay and Joanne and the reason I propose it here. Times have changed and Y&R may want to explore differently. One thing’s clear: The question of Tessa being a possible baddie isn’t happening. Mariah, as well, has been made likable beyond belief. The audience would need to be rooting for these… Read more »

I vote yes! Day time need to move into more Real life. This would be a perfect Segway . They would make a very interesting couple.
It will enrich the lives and storyline of Genoa City.

It’s better than trying to bring dead people back to
The show. It would be a fresh new current story line. Do it Y & R !
Step outside the box !
