I’m fine w/them… don’t think they’re a big deal one way or the other. I find they can add flavor to a scene (and I actually get a kick out of the sillier ones!) As a ‘not-privvy to budget/production issues’ viewer, I choose to just go w/digital or not. Some backgrounds are obviously so fake! – as is the WHOLE show, lol, which is why I’m ok w/them. Seems to me this is another ‘lose, lose’ issue for soaps- re: ANY backgrounds/sets (digital or not) there will always be complaints: “too fake,” “too many,” “not enough,” “under-used,” “over-used,” “not relevant,”… Read more »

Not really. Back in the day when they didn’t create a set, they just had someone stand against a wall with a plant on a table. That seemed more realistic. If they use the digital backdrops, the actors can just “work from home.” That said, any scenario is better than no Y&R.
