I understand EXACLY what Elena is going through. I did something similar 20 years ago. That’s right. I had my own soapy experience at work as an administrative assistant I fell HARD for the boss! It’s totally unrealistic to think that people are not going to find romantic partners at work. People spend the majority of their waking hours there (in normal times). Sensible policies have to be in place about these relationships and the power to supervise, promote, give raises, fire, etc. Just ask me—I’m a very fake attorney.

I voted ‘yes’ as I met my husband of 20 years at work. Office romances are the best! However, we were co-workers, so not against policy. Nate and Elena as well as Sally and Adam would be a problem as they have supervisory roles over the other. Legal red flags with that and most companies would have written policy against such a thing. When things go south for Sally, she could slap a sexual harassment lawsuit on Adam. I don’t see Elena doing that.

Sure, it’s okay. Just like any policy, if it negatively affects business and/ or job performance, then it can be addressed w/that individual and/or couple.

Since our company is larger we work in completely different areas and our jobs do not overlap in any way. I think it is all good as long as there is no obvious conflict of interest. More specifically, you or your partner do not report directly… Read more »
