What’s On YOUR Soap Opera Resume

We all love and watch Y&R — but what other soap operas have you watched (past or present)?

List your past and/or current daytime drama indulgences here! Feel free to include how long watched, what years you watched, and of course, your favorite storylines. Looking forward to reading through your resumes! 😉

Thanks again to Justin for another excellent “Community Question” idea!

Coronation street and Eastenders but there again, I’m on the other side of the Atlantic! That said, I have tried to get into Days of our Lives (it was broadcast until recently in France) and General Hospital but they don’t feel as easy to watch as Y&R. Bold and the Beautiful is fine (depending on the storylines and how much they insist on them over a week) but I hate the fact that it is so predictable!

Another World – I love, love loved when Jensen Buchanan (aka twins Vicky and Marley on Another World) appeared as Judge Moxley on Y&R.

My mom watched Love of Life and Ryan’s Hope. When my first daughter was born in 1981 I was living in a cabin with ONE CHANNEL, and started watching Another World. STILL my very favourite soap. I eventually added AMC and OLTL. And then actually tried to watch Days of our Lives, but found it SO ridiculous. I later added GL and ATWT. When those all went off the air, sadly, I tried DOOL again, before finally settling on Y&R and GH, which I have watched for the past several years. I later began watching B&B when Thorsten Kaye took… Read more »

I started watching General Hospital and One Life to Live when I was about 10, and kept up with OLTL for the next 30+ years, until it was cancelled (I followed it into its short online run as well). The last day of its network run was one of the saddest days of my life. That show helped me through some REALLY rough times, and Llanview was my 2nd home. So many good storylines, but I really loved the Spring Fling rape story, which handled things in really frank ways. Of course, the infamous Eterna story, which was about an… Read more »

The way you felt about OLTL is the same way I felt about Guiding Light. I was so attached to the characters and show. It becomes part of your world when you’re that invested. I felt heartbroken in a way when Guiding Light ended. It’s last air date was on one of my son’s birthday’s, and I remember him being mad because I was upset on his birthday. I’ve got nothing against talk shows, or reality shows, which is what replaced all these daytime dramas that went off air, but I really think the networks should invest in creating a… Read more »

My mother watched Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light back in the very early ’60s when they were both only 15 long! I watched Ryan’s Hope, AMC, OLTL and GH from the early ’70s but then gave them all up to watch Y&R, on which Mom got me hooked! I in turn got my 2 daughters obsessed and now we watch with my 3 grandbabies! Four generations of Y&R aficionados

I looked up Dynasty and Amazon Prime has 8 seasons available to stream free as part of the Amazon Prime subscription. Many Dark Shadows episodes are available on Hulu.

Hi Ali…….I was only knee high when I started watch Y&R….so without giving away my age….LOL…. it would be 40 plus years…..Days of our Lives was also another….however it was a soap that never really caught my attention long enough for me to forge a life long allegiance like Y&R…… Bold and the Beautiful is one I have watched consistently over the last 5 years….I use it as a filler when I don’t have any further Y&R’s to catch up or watch….hahahha for me….there is only one that will always stand out in the crowd…..Y&R forever…..

My family always watched soap opera when I was growing up. My grandmother watched Ryan’s Hope, Loving, All My Children, and One Life to Live. My mom watched Guiding Light, Y&R, the Bold and the Beautiful and As the World Turns. So depending on who was watching me I’d watch any of those shows from the late 80s to the mid 90s when I went to college. Then I mainly watched CBS soaps because that’s what my mom taped. When I was in graduate school to become a Speech Language Pathologist, I started watching Days of our lives because the… Read more »

In 1977 I was a stay at home mom with a black and white tv that only picked up ABC clearly so their whole soap line up starting with Ryan’s Hope and ending with General Hospital was on while I did housework, cooked and took care of babies. In 1987 I started working full time outside the home and had to choose one soap to record on the old vcr. I stuck with GH and added Port Charles in 1997 because with the two shows I could do an hour on the elliptical while fast forwarding through the commercials. In… Read more »

Hi Ali and chatters. I only watched Days of our lives growing up. My mother watched it with me as a kid. I quit watching after I moved away. Then a couple of years ago I started watching General Hospital and soon after that I got hooked on Y&R. I am now watching all four. I can’t believe how hooked you can get on them.

Let me say that Y&R has great storylines I wish there was a way to see some of the past of Neil and his mother and Luca and his father to get a real sense of why these very complicated people have gone through all the things they have..Neil with his many relationship and Luca trying to be Superman and trying to come in and be the rescuer of the day…This also goes for Chloe and why she is so like a roller coaster in the things she does at this point I will never will understand but I will… Read more »

Neil’s mother could have gotten out of the nursing home, come to town, and been a great addition to the meddlers like Jill and Gloria. Where is Gloria? The story as it was told just took up space and offered nothing to past or future stories. Neil had a mother, Neil hid his mother from his family, Neil reconnected with his mother (alone), Neil’ s mother died. That’s that. So?
