I just skimmed over this week’s video (will watch properly later) to find the quote of the wk. While skimming I heard you Ali talking about how the week before (which I haven’t watched yet) you were really critical of JG. I just want to say you never disappoint me Ali! We all go off on a rant about the show sometimes! We all have ideas of what we’d want to change. Critical, happy or excited I’m here for all your yrchats! I don’t think every week you should be pleased with the writing because then I’d think you were… Read more »
I feel the hairstyles of Abby, Victoria, Summer, and Sally could be more professional, love the show and have been a fan for many years.
P.s. Lilys hair is great.
I admit I noticed the Danny/Donny thing from the beginning—but Ali, you “built this world from the ground up”!!! You can absolutely call him whatever you want to call him. Now that he’s gone, I will mention that his last name is probably pronounced Bow-az, not Boze. Does that make you laugh even more or at least make you glad we are done talking about him? Bye bye what’s-his-name! Best of luck in your future endeavors!
I don’t know if you saw this, but I thought you accidentally typed Donny instead of Danny last week, and I made a little joke about it. I also never felt comfortable saying his last name. Maybe it IS good riddance. Donny Boaz is just too complex for me!
Let’s agree it’s all his fault. He should be in a boy band if he’s going to go by Donny or Danny anyway. And why can’t poor Abby ever just be happy???? Add Donny/Danny to the long list of disasters. If it takes Justin Gaston for Abby to have a happy relationship for a bit, then FINE. Stop torturing her.
Ali you do such a great job and I love your enthusiasm. I hopeY&R will one day deserve it. I could not believe the median age of Y&R viewers is 65. It made me take a look at my decision making skills – like why am I watching this show – I am obviously too young and obviously too restless.
If it makes you feel better Herman, I’m 35! My mom used to watch it years ago when I was a child but now she watches cultural dramas instead. No affairs there.
I’m young at heart, LOL. My daughter pretends not to watch, but YR has been part of her life since she was born. She knows all the characters and a lot of the history. I’ll drop hints when something big happens and sure enough, she gets drawn right in. There’s something about seeing characters every day for an hour and hearing about their personal business! I think the soaps that focus on the mob or outlandish plots are going in the wrong direction. We want real people with dramatic lives, I think. Prime time shows have the budget and freedom… Read more »
Well for me variety is the spice of life. I watch all four soaps at some point. Because you never know, who you will be in a room with, (Pre Covid).
Chatters, I just stumbled upon the soapiest movie ever on Netflix, “Home is Where the Killer is”, released in 2019. It stars Stacy Haiduk and Kelly Kruger, aka, Patty Williams and Mac. Kristoff St. John even makes a cameo as a doctor. It’s like watching Crazy Patty star in her own movie. Stacy even calls her friend in the movie Patty Cake. I loved every campy moment of this film treat. Seeing Kristoff on my screen again was both wonderful and heartbreaking, live on in joy and peace on the other side Mr. St. John.
I’m still catching up on the chats. I watched the one from the first week of Jan. It got me thinking. Why didn’t Sharon/Rey have any of their friends at their wedding? Isn’t Chance Rey’s friend? And who are Sharon’s friends? Also, if Shey break up who should be with Rey? Traci? Imagine her with a hot guy like Rey! They could be boring but Victoria & Rey would be worse. As for Shadam, Sharon doesn’t want a rescuer (like Nick) yet that is exactly what she is doing for Adam…coming to his rescue. That’s hypocritical IMO. I rewatched Amanda… Read more »
Friendships are so lacking on YR. And yes, where did Sharon’s mother disappear to? And Phyllis never mentions her sister Avery—who we know— or if her parents are still alive. It’s odd.
Hi Ellen, I remembered Phyllis saying that her father had passed away, so I did a little research. I have copied and pasted this information. I have not seen her parents as I had stopped watching at that time. I would love to see and get to know Phyllis’s mother. That would be so interesting. George Summers History George Summers was played by Duke Stroud in 1995 and Ken Howard in 2012. George Summers Jr., was the son of George Summers Sr. and Harriet. He was married to Lydia Callahan, and the father of Phyllis Summers and Avery Clark. In… Read more »
But here’s the thing; as you say, whatever you may have said about Josh Griffith in the past, you’re not that same person anymore.
Ali, you are not alone on the Danny/Donny snafu. I was looking at spoilers and such on the web and thought that the website I was on got his name wrong when it read Donny instead of Danny. I’ve been right there with ya the whole time. Thank you for the wonderful community and Sunday escape that is YR Chat!
Thank YOU! Hey, I think he should consider changing his name to Donny “The Danny” Boaz. Could be a great career move! Rebranding!
I googled Danny Boaz, last week, and when it asked if I meant Donny Boaz I was confused, and realized listening today that it was your fault!
I take full responsibility!
You may have started a Mandella Affect!
Haha, I had mn’t finished the podcast when Zi wrote this.
LOL too true, the whole of Youtube is calling him Danny as well.
For an old fogey like me you sounded like you were waxing rhapsodic over the lost youth when you initially feel in love with the program. So sad, and at only 41 years of age. Time does fly. Don’t worry, I am sure that Josh or Dr. Nate are the upstanding, salt of the Earth type of guys who will do justice when the baby is due, and just think how happy little Ali will be when she discovers she has a little brother or sister (of course, the other side of this equation will be the reaction of your… Read more »
Not having Y&R this week, then thinking about not having Y&R at all… that’s what did me in! Oh, and also the immaculate pregnancy hormones.
Hello Dear Ali! My prescription for Y and R….Things need to HAPPEN. Not so much talk. Happenings ! I don’t need a plane crash or a kidnapping everyday but SOMETHING needs to happen. Every day. Order bones from Amazon or flying to LA to talk about Sally doesn’t cut it for me,
Ali, Thanks for your chats, I love em! I don’t always pay attention to the tv but always get caught up on Sundays. I just looked over the Wiki ratings you mentioned. It looks like B&B ratings are worse. But maybe if CBS does combine both shows it just may be the toy hidden in the soap. I would hate to see Y&R taken off. But CBS needs to get to the core of their issues, and that is the head writer. If you look over his bio his gate run is about two years max for writing soap operas,… Read more »
Thank you! The toy hidden in the soap!!! I love that. What a good one!
I should post the link to that Y&R ratings Wiki here, in case anyone else is searching for it. Very interesting stuff: https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geK.NfGiRgU_MAYAZx.9w4;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzYEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny/RV=2/RE=1613007584/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.m.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fList_of_U.S._daytime_soap_opera_ratings/RK=2/RS=FEi5wD5s9vE1i88PNP_D0gvxEV0-
Chatters, We had time this week to dive into overall Y&R ideas, thoughts of the past, and hopes for the future. That was good. To continue, it needs solid story and characters. Y&R had a couple of key features that need to be started now to take it into the future. 1-A rivalry to go on and on like Jack and Victor. I guess it would be Billy and Adam, but Billy needs to get back to Jabot, and Adam needs to get into Newman. The Delia story can be a background, but no longer the central focus of their… Read more »
For your rivalry it could have been Theo and Kyle. And ironically the longest relationship on the show aside from Nikki and Victor, is Mariah and Tessa(through all the crap the show has thrown at them) they have been together 4 years. Go Figure.
You have forgotten Lauren and Michael, Paul and Chris.
Ali, You are the best. You along with the chance to interact with the chatters is the main reason I actually continue to watch Y&R. Firstly, I don’t think you were too harsh about the current writing of the show. As you were making the point I was thoroughly in agreement. Secondly, you will get that Victor and Adam bonding moment that you talked about and then someone else bonding with Adam. Third and last, I like that you are both thoughtful and crazy when giving your perspective of the show. I said it before but I will say it… Read more »
This is an all time record. 86 minutes of YRChat to cover 36 minutes of Y&R without the commercial breaks.
HA! That’s funny. I guess I have a knack for making a LOT out of a LITTLE! 😛
* Correction (I’m full of them today): I started watching the show in 1993, which would have made me 13 years old. I was WAY too young and restless!
I listen to Y&R Chat podcast on the subway ride home in NY. Makes the ride quick which is the best thing for a NY subway a quick ride! It’s great, you do a fabulous job and I enjoy it , never miss it!
I told you only you never listen to me!
Well, here’s the thing: I DO remember you saying I got his name wrong, but I thought you meant I said it wrong like… once. I didn’t realize I was saying it wrong EVERY time since November!
I didn’t notice either.
