I voted the recent episodes are very good. I like the combination of Adam, Nick and Sharon working together but I think there are way too many companies on Y&R. Everyone hating Diane is getting old, but I am glad Jack finally got some one, he was too long without a partner. I like Sharon with Chance although was a quick increase in their relationship ,way too fast ,and looks like Summer will be thrown in for a triangle. I like Phyllis being back but give her life back, she will make mistakes all on her own, doesn’t need Tucker… Read more »

You’ve touched on a few examples of how different Y&R is during the writers’ strike. Characters are doing and saying things that are “out of character.” I’m wondering how things will be corrected once the strike (I hope, soon) is over. It’s going to be a tangled mess of yarn(s) to somehow undo and get back on track. Right now the train seems to have derailed, and there are going to be casualties. It takes a trained, experienced writer to not just plan plot directions in the short term, but to have longterm goals and a cohesive narrative. My writing… Read more »

The conversation/argument with Adam & Victor was so strange. I thought this was wrapped up twice before. The only thing new was Adam mentioning he offered Phyllis an IT job. Guess Victor was bored without Nikki and called Adam over for sport?

I agree, and I was disturbed by the scene with Victor sparring with the heavy bag. Is Victor going super villain again?

I was waiting for Victor to fall down and have a heart attack or a stroke!

Are we completely “sure” Ashland is dead?? Because he could come back and thwart all of Victor’s newly laid plans for Newman with Victoria and Nate at the helm! LOL

I was on the fence for a few months, but I am now convinced that Diane has a master plan! Her “plan” to fake Jack and Billy’s argument is just part of her overall strategy. She will have all three siblings against each other and then swoop in and take Jabot! And she is manipulating it so it looks like it’s all Jack’s idea. Once a con artist, always a con artist, right, Chelsea?

I agree. Some people think Diane is working with Tucker all along to get Jabot.

How about that completely UNNECESSARY flashback of Jack Abbott being courted by Leanna Love? That’s a writer’s strike for you!

I really don’t get why Kyle couldn’t attend his mom & dad’s wedding. Is it that he can not cope with the concept of true love at this point in time? I had not considered J&D’s quickie ceremony to end up a plot point over a lavish-esque Y&R show stopper. Am I to get all worked up over a Chancellor house wedding for Ashley & Tucker with over the top florals around the staircase? Ashley in a little white hat with a veil while Traci encores the great, When Will You Find Love? Blach… And a fancy wedding never takes.

Kyle could have went to his parent’s wedding. He didn’t want to, would rather have sex with Audra

Is Ashley or Phyllis YR Witch of the Year? I’m so torn. It’s good we are only in the middle of the summer. The competition has time to sort itself out. Right now Ashley is in the lead but never count Phyllis out when it comes to being terrible (or surprising you).

I don’t think either are or should be designated YR Witch of the Year. I know we will not agree but I’m still not convinced that Diane is not what she is appearing to be on the surface…innocent and reformed. I could be wrong and time will tell. I feel or think that Ashley loves her brother and doesn’t want him to get hurt. She knows that he opens his heart fully to those he love, family, friends, lovers, and/or spouses. Her efforts are not purely selfish or self-centered but done to, in her eyes, to save him and Jabot.… Read more »

Agreed about Diane and Ashley. Of course, time (therefore, the writing) will tell. Viewers may then criticize or praise that result based on how they prefer/believe the story s/be wtitten. I’d really like to see an eventual ‘sus’ Diane story (sure, sure, Jack deserves happiness and blah-dee-blah, but soap happiness is ultimately finite!); however, I’ll always enjoy the show any way it plays out. And yup, Phyllis is a chronic hot mess!

I am ‘on the fence’ about Ashley loving her brother so much. Before love comes anger. Think of all the terrible things she would do to him if she could.

good arguments. I agree Diane couldn’t possibly be this innocent and good. She is planning something. Phyllis always gets herself in trouble and I’m sure won’t be long before she tries to get Jack from Diane

I vote both! I may Audra in the mix (although not caught up, so maybe she is becoming angelic). Why not add Nikkii and Victoria? Tough call for me- I love ‘them all.

Right now Ashley is worse than Phyllis but that won’t last long.

I don’t get why Audra and Kyle are going around now flaunting their flirting around town like they have no shame and thinking their jobs are secure at Newman Media. Once the great Victor Newman finds out about their affair whether they merge the two companies or not, Audra and Kyle will be kicked to the curb so fast. If Victor is telling Phyllis that there will be hell to pay because of what she did to Summer, he definitely will chew Audra and Kyle up and spit them out.

“Hell to pay”…the last time he “hurt” Phyllis with a fake Jack…what will it be this time!! The fake Jack was despicable and low. I cannot imagine the extent he will go to for Summer. As to Kyle and Audra, I wonder how much will he care and to what degree.

Yeah I wonder what he will do to Phyllis as well. It was already low what he did to her with Marco.

SO much good drama on Friday’s episode. Billy and Victor were amazing in their respective scenes!

I like the idea of Phyllis going to Adam and then maybe feeling indebted. An Adam-Phyllis hook up could be fun and would drive Nick nuts!

Also, was it just me or was Summer giving Chance puppy eyes this week?

Re: the writing for Y&R, I think there are 2 things at play.

The writer’s strike may be responsible for flashback fillers, love scenes, etc., BUT the other thing that we’ve been getting residual from is when they fired some of the top writers and left all storylines to Josh Griffith. I actually think that’s the reason for the more fragmented stories, weird turns, elongated plots, etc.

But this is conjecture. Has anyone read anything about this?

Yes, some Chatters have given that very ‘single writer’ explanation for the same type of negatives as you point out.

Lately the stories for Victor have been poorly written. The writing for him needs to change. However, to lose Victor as a character would be a huge loss! Victor and Jack are the mainstays of the show! What Young and Restless has always done over the years is use a multi generational cast. That is why it has remained the number 1 soap. The show would lose its appeal if it lost its older characters and was only comprised of actors maybe ages 30-40 year olds. That would surely be a narrowly aged viewership from that age group.

Actually, Most of the cast that we see on a regular basis is 50 and over, but their characters are behaving like children. So, there’s that.

Ali, I do like that shot of Jack and Diane in their wedding finery! Diane appears to have a giant, flowery hat perched jauntily sideways atop her ‘do… reminiscent of gussied-up gals at the Kentucky Derby and/or the Royal Family lovely ladies at any given shindig! (Lol, also reminds me of Tucker’s Pinocchio-nose illusion!)

Patriotic, Jack & Diane marrying in front of the American flag but a little odd and not what was expected.

This whole pretend to be mad at Jack & pull one over on Ashley & Tucker scheme seems kind of silly and fraught with peril. Who was saying Jack & Billy will really end up hating each other for starters?
