I also voted no along with the other chatters. I feel like you as well, Ali that it was surprising and shocking to see on Y&R but at the same time it is realistic and I am really enjoying the storyline as it is very compelling. Nick is doing such a great job with this story as his acting makes it very believable as well as some of the scenes we have seen with Nick’s various mood swings. It seems it is especially relevant to a person like Nick who comes from a family of wealth, as it is definitely… Read more »

It is a very relatable story because I don’t know of any family that hasn’t been impacted by addiction. The bathroom scene was pretty intense but, a realistic portrayal of an addict.

I voted No, it’s not too dark. Too dark (for me) is the hostages and secret imprisonments of various characters over the years.

I voted No, but it’s doing what they intend it to…shock us. Nick is going head first into his drug problem. I wonder how far it will go. Will he graduate to intravenous usage? We just saw Patty date rape Jack, we’ve seen rapes, murders, infidelity. Compared to other shows, granted, not daytime, Nick’s drug use is pretty light viewing.

Adam: what is with all these GC characters being a different personality. I am starting to think there are a lot of severely mentally ill in the Newman/Abbot families. This doesn’t work again for the current Adam. Hope Chelsey comes in a kicks Ressa’s ass. I think Sharon will be the one to end Matt Clark and save Nick. Unless…. Matt’s ex takes him down and then Nick falls for her leaving Noah free for Audra. .

The reason I voted not to dark for daytime is because Y&R historically has taken on dark social issues as an awareness story. Nick should get an Emmy for his performance. A big reason many regular people get addicted to prescription drugs and destroy their lives is started by managing chronic pain. Also, showing how quickly and devastating fentanyl is by showing our darling Nick Newman even falling into drug addiction. The Matt/Nick scenes could get hard to watch if Matt makes Nick beg for more drugs. Just look at the current news of Tiger and you can see parallels… Read more »

Well, Josh Morrow is such a good actor, he is acing the performance. But I love the longer hair Nick grinning at girls, and telling Dad jokes. Please come home, Nick. Who will save him? Phyllis doesn’t even know.

I don’t think it’s too dark for Y&R. It is realistic and people can connect with it. Won’t last too long, and will be even more of an issue with Matt holding Nick hostage. I’m sure he recognizes that Nick is hooked on drugs and will use that to his advantage.
